Letter
As the largest government bailout since the great
depression is being fabricated in Washington, D.C. - a
brief observation: “I find it ironic (and somewhat
amusing) that, thanks to trickle-down economics,
privatization and deregulation, we Americans may all
soon become Socialists.”
R. Lincoln Burns
Church Woman Honored
By Joyce Beairsto
The Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church of
North Barnstead (UCC) held its monthly meeting on
September 17th at the Pratt Schoolhouse with a pot-luck
dinner and candlelight service at sundown. During the
service, Faith McTigue was honored with a gift and
flowers thanking her for all she had contributed to the
fellowship and the Church. Faith was instrumental in
beginning the fellowship in 2001. Faith and her
husband are leaving NH this fall.
In addition, a new slate of officers to be elected at
the Oct. meeting was nominated. Outgoing President
Roberta Pratt, was presented with a prayer shawl made by
Marylee Johnson.
The women of the Church are preparing for a fair to be
held at the Church on November 8th.
The next meeting will be on Oct.23rd at the home of
Barbara Moulton in Alton.
Barnstead Historical Society Hosts Cemetery Tour
The Barnstead Historical Society is changing its usual
October date and meeting place. On Thursday, October 9
at 4:00 p.m., Twink Merrill will lead us on a guided
tour of the Old Parade Cemetery where some of our
prominent early residents, including the notable Enos
George, are buried. We will meet at the Parade Grounds
and walk the short distance to the cemetery. Part of
this cemetery is on a hillside fronting Parade Road.
However, there is a drivable rear entrance off Beauty
Hill Road for those who are not up to climbing.
The tour will be followed by a pot luck supper at the
home of Roger and Bea Nelson on Peacham Road. Please
bring the usual dish to share and your own place
setting. At some point during the evening, the members
who went on the September trip to Concord, Mass. will
share their experience with us. That trip was inspired
by a desire to see the renewed Snackerty Meeting House
at Concord Academy.
At 7:00 p.m. the business meeting will commence and the
drawing for the raffle prizes will be held. Tickets are
still being sold by society members. There are three
items being raffled: 10 quarts of frozen wild
blueberries from Ken Pitman, 10 hours of genealogy
research and/or assistance by Susan Fraser, and a
reprint of Jewett’s 1872 History of Barnstead.
As always, the tour, supper, and meeting are free and
open to the public. You are invited and encouraged to
attend all or parts of the afternoon and evening events.
For more information, call Ken Pitman at 269-5692 or
Susan Fraser at 269-8991.

Jim & Carole Wickliffe
To Speak At Center Barnstead Christian Church
The Center Barnstead Christian Church begins its Fall
Missions Emphasis Month this weekend. Our theme for the
month is “The Acts 1:8 Challenge - Empowering the church
to be on Mission.” Acts 1:8 says, “But you will receive
power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be
my witnesses in Jerusalem , and in all Judea and
Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” On Saturday,
October 4th we will be holding a Children’s Pizza Party
Lunch for kids ages 4 years old to 6th grade. The lunch
will begin at noon and continue until 2:00 PM. All
children and their families are welcome to come to the
church for this special lunch geared just for kids. This
will be a fun time, as we hear from our featured
speakers this weekend, Jim and Carole Wickliffe.
Both Jim & Carole will be visiting with us this weekend.
Jim is the President/CEO of Children’s Bible Fellowship
of New York, and Carole is his Administrative Secretary.
Their burden is to reach the unreached through all means
available, so that they may know and experience the
saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Jim is a graduate of
Philadelphia College of the Bible. His major was
Christian Education. After graduating in 1968, Jim spent
many years in “part time” ministries. These ministries
included: Interim Pastor, Sunday School Teacher, Bus
Ministry, Youth Director, Vacation Bible Schools and
work with homeless teenage boys. In 1978 God led Jim and
his wife to full time service with Children’s Bible
Fellowship of New York, Inc. Since then Jim has worked
in many areas: Street Evangelism, Bible Clubs, Rallies,
Clowning, Teacher Training and he directed Camp Joy.
Jim’s burden is to realize God’s vision for Children’s
Bible Fellowship, which is “Making Disciples of New York
City’s Forgotten Fields.” Those forgotten fields include
the saving of the poorest of poor, lost, hurting and
broken children and their families in New York City.
Come and hear more about the Wickliffe Family’s ministry
both during our Sunday School hour which begins at 9:30
AM and during our Morning Worship time beginning at
10:30 AM. For more information, please contact the
church at 269-8831.
The Center Barnstead Church is located on Route 126,
next to the Town Hall.
