Sargent, daughter of Mark and Ginger Sargent of Center Barnstead has been
named to the Dean’s List for the 2008 fall semester at the University of New
England, Biddeford/Portland, Maine. Dean’s List students have attained a
grade point average of 3.30 or better out of a possible 4.0 at the end of
the semester.
A 2006 graduate of Northwood Coe Brown Academy, Sargent is a major in
Environmental Studies. She is also actively involved at the University in
the Epsilon Chapter of the Alpha Chi Honor Society.
Knights Of
Columbus Free Throw Competition
Knights of Columbus Council 7533 will be sponsoring a Free Throw Competition
to be held at 12:00 on Sunday, February 1st. The event is open to boys and
girls ages 10-14 and will take place at the Alton Central School Gym.
This local competition is part of the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw
Championship with winners progressing on to the state level competition.
International Champions are announced by the K of C International
headquarters based on state-level competitions. Last year more than 151,000
participants took part in over 3,100 local competitions.
Each participant will compete within their respective age category, and
plaques will be awarded to the local champion within each of the 5 age
categories for both boys and girls. All competitors will be recognized for
their participation.
Participants are required to provide written parental consent, and
registration at the event is allowed. We hope that you will join us for some

Poetry Contest
for New Hampshire Students
The Poetry Society of New Hampshire is sponsoring two contests for New
Hampshire students, one for Grades 1 - 8 and one for High School. Ten
winners from each category will be published in the The Poets’ Touchstone,
the quarterly poetry magazine published by the Society. There are strict
guidelines which must be followed and a deadline of March 31, 2009. For a
copy of the guidelines, send a number 10 self-addressed stamped envelope to
the Poetry Society of NH, 31 Reservoir Road, Farmington, NH 03835 or e-mail

The theme this year is HOPE.
The Poetry Society of NH is a non profit, state-wide membership organization
dedicated to the promotion of poetry. The society publishes the quarterly
journal The Poets Touchstone, sponsors poetry contests and hosts poetry
readings and workshops. The society also publishes anthologies, most
recently The 2008 Poets Guide to NH and The Other Side of Sorrow, Poets
Speak Out About Conflict, War and Peace, and the occasional chapbook. The

Attention Players, Coaches and Volunteers
BYBA will be conducting signups for all players at the below times and
places:
• March 2ndth (Mon) Barnstead Public Library 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
Please park near the ice rink versus the library parking lot
• March 7th (Sat.) Barnstead Elementary School 9:00 a.m. - Noon.
• March 14h (Sat.) Barnstead Elementary School 9:00 a.m. - Noon
*Signups after March 14th will be considered late and subject to the late
fee.
Assessments,
though not mandatory, will be held March 28th at the Barnstead Elementary
school. Assessments will be conducted for children aged 9 through 11. More
information will be provided at Signups.
If you have an interest to become a Coach or Assistant Coach, please contact
Pam Locke so we can start assessing the level of interest.
Also, if you have not returned your child’s uniform from last year, please
plan to drop it off at one of the above mentioned timeslots.
