Recently 70 4-H youth and families from all over Strafford
County brought the holiday spirit to residents of Riverside Rest Home
and Covered Bridge Manor in Dover. Heard were the ringing of bells, and
the singing of songs. Abby and Caleb Chamberlain, 4-H youth from
Strafford played the piano and flute as accompaniment for the evening. A
resident of Covered Bridge Manor noted, “our next generation of youth is
in good hands!”
Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee To Hold Meeting
The
Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee (BARC) will hold their next monthly
meeting on Tuesday, January 12 at J.J. Goodwin's Restaurant (upstairs),
769 Suncook Valley Rd. (Rt 28), Center Barnstead. (603) 364-9780.
Following our normal format, dinner (at your option) is at 5:30 p.m.;
the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
BARC is
pleased to announce that former NH Attorney General and now candidate
for the US Senate, Kelly Ayotte, will be the featured guest speaker.
Ms.
Ayotte, a New Hampshire native, served for five years as NH’s first
female Attorney General where she earned a reputation as a
tough-on-crime prosecutor. While Ayotte was serving as the state's top
law enforcement officer, New Hampshire remained one of the safest states
in the nation. On July 17, 2009, Ayotte stepped down as Attorney General
to run for the United States Senate to replace retiring Senator Judd
Gregg.
As
Attorney General, Ayotte has fought to keep our children safe and our
public officials honest. She led efforts to pass tough new laws to crack
down on sexual and internet predators. Kelly also vigorously pursued the
prosecution of white collar crimes and public corruption regardless of a
person's political party.
The
Manchester Union Leader named Ayotte Citizen of the Year in 2008 for her
successful prosecutions of the first capital murder cases in New
Hampshire in over 60 years. Additionally, Business New Hampshire
Magazine named her one of the ten most powerful people in New Hampshire,
and New Hampshire Magazine named her one of the State's remarkable
women.
Ayotte
has had a distinguished career in public service. She served as the
Deputy Attorney General and Chief of the Homicide Unit where she led the
prosecution of numerous murder cases including the successful
prosecution of two defendants for the brutal murders of two Dartmouth
professors.
As a
product of New Hampshire's public schools, Kelly went on to graduate
from Pennsylvania State University (with honors) in 1990 with a B.A. in
Political Science and graduated from the Villanova University School of
Law in 1993, where she served as Executive Editor of the Environmental
Law Journal. Ms. Ayotte spent one year as a law clerk to the Honorable
Sherman D. Horton, Associate Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court.
Kelly's
husband, Joe, is an Iraq war veteran who currently serves in the Air
National Guard. Kelly worked side-by-side with Joe to create a landscape
and snow removal company. She understands the importance of small
businesses to the New Hampshire economy and the direct impact fiscal
decisions made in Washington can have on small businesses and the jobs
they create.
Kelly
lives with her husband, five year old daughter Katherine, and two year
old son Jacob in Nashua.
In
addition to hearing from Ms. Ayotte, the agenda also includes:
Candidate Update for the 2010 elections.
The regular monthly
legislative update from our State Representatives.
BARC
“housekeeping” – EIN, Checking Account, Federal Taxes, etc.
Republican Women’s “Coalition” Update.
More information about two
Special Elections and one primary taking place the same day as the
January BARC meeting.
2010 is
here, and with its arrival, our main focus will be the November 2010
elections. What better way to hear from the candidates up close and
personal so you can decide which ones you see eye-to-eye with. At the
same time, we’ll also be addressing the major issues that affect us all
- the economy, healthcare, and a return to New Hampshire’s common sense
values.
If
you’ve attended past meetings, you know that they’re informal and
informative; we’re looking forward to getting together with you again!
If you’ve never attended a BARC meeting, please feel free to drop in and
join us; we generally have a few new people joining us each month. Our
members, from Alton, Barnstead, Wolfeboro, Meredith, Laconia and other
surrounding towns, feel the need to get involved to improve their lives
and those of their children and grandchildren. The November 2010
elections will be here before you know it; if you want something better
than you’ve been experiencing, now’s the time to jump on the band-wagon!
