Ice Cream Social
Take time out of your busy summer schedule to relax and enjoy an ice
cream sundae at the Bow Lake Grange Hall, 569 Province Road Strafford,
NH, on Wednesday, July 6, from 4 to 8 pm. The Strafford Women’s
Club will be holding their July Annual Ice Cream Social. What is
more fun and delicious than constructing your own ice cream sundae from
a choice of vanilla, chocolate, or coffee ice cream? Pour on
caramel or hot fudge sauce, pile on your choices of toppings from a
variety of fruits, nuts, jimmies and other candies. Top with a
mound of whipped cream and finish off with a bright red cherry.
Then sit down at a table with your friends and family or make new
acquaintances as you savor the blend of flavors and the good company.
Tickets will be sold at the door—small sundaes are $2.50; large, $3.50.
Add a homemade brownie for fifty cents or take one home for later.
While you enjoy your sundae, don’t forget to buy tickets for the

Obituaries
Fred Newton
Scott Goodrich
Fred Newton Scott Goodrich, 83, of Barnstead,
NH, passed away on June 13, 2016 at his home in Alton Bay, NH.
Fred was born in Providence, RI on February
16, 1933. He was the fourth child and second son of Robert M. and Marion
Scott Goodrich. He was a graduate of Moses Brown School and went on to
the University of Rhode Island for his BSEE and Pepperdine University
for his MBA.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; his children: son, Scott Goodrich of
Hancock, NH and daughters Jeannette Mahlen and Keri Tate of Seattle, WA;
five grandchildren and four great grandchildren as well as many extended
family members; his sister, Grace Goodrich Ward of Cincinnati, OH, also
survives him. His siblings, Robert M. Goodrich Jr. of Rochester,
NY and Marilyn Goodrich Guenther of Syosset, NY preceded him in death.
Fred enjoyed traveling with his wife Sylvia and cherished his time with
their families. He was an active outdoorsman and continued to alpine
ski, golf, and sail up until his death. He was an avid New England
sports fan and nearly always had some sporting event on TV. He was a
member of the British Car Club and enjoyed numerous hobbies including
restoring cars (especially his MG’s), woodworking, rowing, and tinkering
with any mechanical or electrical device that needed attention. Fred was
also a pilot and had a plane in his younger years. He proudly served in
the US Army in Germany post WWII. Fred was an integral member of
the team that designed and installed the radar systems on the USS
Enterprise.
Fred was an engineer at his core. He worked
for Hughes Aircraft for many years and later RCA and MITRE Corp. He was
also a successful businessman and co-founded Cellular Specialties, Inc.
with his son Scott. He was very proud that the company grew to employ
nearly 200 people. The ideals and contributions he made touched the
lives of many and he will be remembered for his kindness, earnestness
and his dry sense of humor.
If you would like to make any donations in
Fred’s memory please send to JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation) at 175 Ammon Dr., Suite 201, Manchester, NH 03103 – Ph.
