Celebrating National 4-H week the Victory Workers 4-H Club has a
window display on Main Street in Pittsfield. Thanks to Paul Rogers
for the use of windows in the former video store. We also are
holding our Annual 4-H Cookie and Candy Bar Sale this month. Several
varieties are now available for only $3.75 per package. Candy Bars
are $1.00 each. Your support to the 4-H youth in your community is
greatly appreciated. If a 4-H member has not contacted
you, please call 4-H leaders Pamela Clattenburg 269-3200, Pauline
Wheeler 435-8752, Mark Riel 435-6346 or Corine Miller 435-8497.
It is time again, as the trees change, that we need to start
thinking about Thanksgiving and serving our fellow man. If you would
like to help us with food or a time donation, please give us a call
at 603-736-9954. Again this year will be at the Epsom Fire Station
from 12-2 pm, open to all in the surrounding communities. Please
feel free to join us and be blessed.
The Division of Motor Vehicles is now ready to issue Photo IDs for
Voting Purposes Only. The Voter Identification Card Voucher is
available from the Town Clerk’s Office and states that this photo
identification card is for voting purposes only and that you do not
possess a form of identification that meets the requirement of the
elections laws of this state. After the voucher is filled out one
must obtain the Photo IDs for voting purposes only at a Motor
Vehicle Office. Call Evelyn at the Chichester Town Clerk’s Office
with questions.
Please plan to attend Candidates’ Night on Thursday, October 11, at
6:30 pm in the Grange/Town Hall. Meet your state and county
candidates, ask questions, snack and mingle.
The Chichester Youth Association will meet on Sunday, October 14th,
at 6 pm at the Town Hall. The CYA is looking for volunteers
for board positions as well as snack shack coordinator. Please
attend the meeting if you are interested in helping the community in
any form.
Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, October 17, at 7 pm
upstairs in the Grange Hall.
November 10th is Scouting for Food. Your local pantry will receive a
portion of the things collected. The food pantry is in need of
paper products and hygiene items.
Trunk or Treating is coming up on Saturday, October 27, at Carpenter
Park from 5-6 pm. Trunk decorating begins at 4 pm. At 6 pm there
will be a costume parade (not just for kids). New this year at 6:15
pm is the Jack-o-lantern walk around the Perimeter Trail, ending at
the pavilion with a Halloween story.
Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee
When you come in, please check the Daily Special sign above the
jewelry display. It tells you what color clothing tag is 25¢ for the
month and what is on special that day. For October, there will be
some very special items on sale, such as Make a Purchase (any item)
and pick a free game or puzzle while supplies last. We are also
clearing our reusable bags for 25¢ each. (some are actually handbags
with initials, but work great as carryalls).
I received a nice e-mail from one of our volunteers. She had an
encounter with a man who had never been in the store and he bought
all kinds of items from the hardware section and a winter coat.
He came back later in the day to buy more; he had gone home to get
more cash. He was so impressed with our prices, he had to buy more
things.
We’re not hard to find. We’re on Route 28, five miles from the Epsom
Circle in the long yellow building. Watch for our Open flag and
Thrift Shop sign on Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 and
Sat. 10-4. Call us at 247-7191.
Letter To The Editor
It is time to choose between the two Chichester candidates running
for the NH Legislature’s House of Representatives; both have
legislative experience. The big difference is that one is a “giver”
and the other is a “taker.” Everyone knows the difference between a
giver and a taker - every household has one or two. An adult giver
participates in town activities willingly and cheerfully at no cost
to the town; in fact even expends personal resources and time to the
town’s benefit. Conversely, a taker manipulates town resources and
programs to accrue benefits not available to other taxpayers.
Sally Kelly is a giver. She is a successful business woman and takes
personal time to be on the Chichester School Board and attends all
Town Meetings; she is the Easter Bunny who shows up at the
Chichester Central School’s annual Easter egg hunt. Did you know
that?
The other candidate, John Brandon Guida, is a taker. He proposes to
dam the Suncook River and expend $7 million of taxpayer money to
“fix” the river. Why does the river flood and need fixing? Because
his multimillion dollar home building project will destroy wetlands
that normally store storm water. How much wetland? Probably at least
20 acres that feed the Suncook River. No one in Chichester really
knows as he has forbidden the Conservation Committee and others to
view his land and has exhorted his neighbors to do likewise.
Well, I will vote for the giver, Sally Kelly, as I know she has my
best rural interests at heart and doesn’t need the State spending
money to protect private interests (and raising our property taxes).
Mr. Guida should get back to his law offices and improve his
mentoring skills.
Sincerely,
Paul L. Adams
