Chichester Heritage Commission Awarded Moose Plate Grant
The Chichester Heritage Commission has recently been awarded a
Conservation License Plate Grant for the Historic Grange Hall/Town
Hall Window Restoration Project in the amount of $9,850.
The building, built in 1889 by the Chichester Building Association,
is a two story Greek Revival wood frame structure with a gable roof.
A gabled door hood in the stick trim/Eastlake style, shelters the
double door entrance. The windows are original to the building with
the exception of the small basement windows, which were added in
1988. The original windows measure 40 inches by 70 inches with each
pane measuring 12 inches by 18 inches. The stage area windows are a
bit smaller at 68 inches in the height with panes measuring 12
inches by 16 inches.
The project consists of repairing and weather stripping the sash to
fully restore and energy enhance the building’s windows. Basic
tuning of the mechanical operation, and replacing cracked panes of
glass as well as replacing failed glazing putty will add many more
years to the life-span of these important architectural features.
All windows will be restored using the Secretary of the Interior’s
Standards for Rehabilitation and EPA Lead Safe Practices. Dave
Bowers, Olde Window Restorers, of Weare, NH has been selected to do
the restoration and weatherization of the thirteen windows covered
by the Moose Plate Grant. The Heritage Commission will monitor the
removal and reinstallation of the windows. The Town of Chichester is
the fiscal agent for the project.
The Heritage Commission is currently raising funds for the
restoration of the remaining windows. This effort, "One Pane At A
Time", offers an opportunity to help with the window restoration
project for this historic building.
For more information about the Grange Hall/Town Hall Window
Restoration Project call 798-5709 or contact any Chichester Heritage
Commission member for details.

We have replaced Christmas items in the 3rd room with a section for
baby accessories (you supply the baby.) We have receiving blankets,
onesies, socks, strollers, a nice changing table, cradle, baby
carriers, infant and toddler toys, books and videos.
The most requested item of 2012 has been...covered butter dish!
There must have been a rash of breakage over the holidays!
We thank the donors who have listened and labeled the bags so we
know what is in them and can put out the appropriate items faster.
Even if the label says "summer women" or "winter kids" it helps us
prioritize.
The next few articles will detail our Report of Giving for 2011. It
is truly amazing and a copy will be posted in the store.
Come see us on Route 28, north from the Epsom Circle on Mon. 8-12,
Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4. We have business
cards for your convenience, just ask at the desk.

It’s Budget time! The Library Trustees are asking for the support of
the voters for our warrant article for $15,000 to renovate the
basement area of the library.
The area will be used as a Community Meeting Room, as well as an
area to continue the very popular book sales. Money is needed to do
the work necessary to obtain an Occupancy permit and bring the room
up to fire safety code. Items needed are sprinklers, a fire wall the
length of the garage, which will require moving duct work, the water
treatment system, installing fire proof self-closing doors, lighted
exit signs, two fire extinguishers and fire alarm.
We ask that you visit the library, to see the plan for the room,
which could be used by any group in town and give the library more
space for presentations. We ask for your support by voting Yes on
our warrant article at town meeting.
Respectfully,
Library Trustees
