The “Socks for Seniors” program was a big success. Sixty pairs of
socks in many colors and patterns were donated to the Epsom Manor a
couple of days before Christmas. Many thanks to Chichester Library
and The Attic Thrift Shop for serving as drop-off locations.
Chichester Grange will be doing this project again next year,
starting in October with “Make a Difference Day” and finishing up
around the 20th of December. So, if you happen upon a colorful pair
of socks for a good price, buy it and earmark it for “Socks for
Seniors."
Through a New Hampshire Humanities Council grant the Chichester
Agricultural Commission is honored to present “NH’S GRANGE MOVEMENT:
It’s Rise, Triumphs and Decline” by Steve Taylor at 7 p.m., January
21, Grange Hall, 54 Main Street, Chichester, NH. This program is
free and open to the public. The Chichester Heritage Commission and
Chichester Grange are co-sponsors of this event. Refreshments will
be served.
Happy birthday to Carolee Davison on January 15 and Kelly Brudniak
on January 19.

Seems that people lose forks more than any other utensil! We sold
every fork we had, which was a lot! We can use a refill of the fork
drawer. We have an abundance of bread & butter knives and will be
selling them 3 for 25¢. If you know anyone who uses them for crafts
and projects, please let them know!
Please remember not to dump large pieces of furniture near the
store. We cannot handle big items, like the old wood cabinet left
by the back door. We have to recruit someone to help remove it and
pay at the dump.
Last Thursday of the month is 1/2 price everything day and this
month blue tag CLOTHING items are 25¢. We are on Rte. 28, long grey
plaza, Chichester, near the Pittsfield line.
Mon. 8-12; Tues. & Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 & Sat. 10-4.

Special Thanks
We all know what it is like to tighten our belts and our budgets.
So, when a special gift is received by the Chichester Town Library,
we want to publically extend our appreciation and to describe how it
will be used.
John and Doris Saturley, long-time residents of Chichester,
remembered the Library in their will and a generous check was
presented to the Library Trustees at the December meeting by their
son, Paul McCully. Both Saturleys were avid readers and loved the
Library. Doris was especially worried that with the new technology
available, children would stop coming to the Library and reading
books. She wanted the Library to purchase something that both
children and adults would use.
The Trustees have decided to dedicate some of the money to a book on
agriculture/conservation to specifically honor John, as that was his
passion. In recognition and honor of Doris being a school teacher
for 40 years, a book on education will be added to the collection in
her name.
In addition, the Saturley’s loved movies, so the Library will be
purchasing a DVD player. A video camera will also be purchased,
specifically to enhance the oral history project the Teen Group is
planning to do. They will be recording stories from people in town
to preserve them for all to enjoy and learn.
The generosity of the Saturleys, as well as other library patrons,
is deeply appreciated; and, as other needs arise, the funds will be
put to good use in their memory.
Chichester Grange
Chichester Grange met on Wednesday, January 7, upstairs in the
Grange Hall. Before the meeting members enjoyed a Soup Supper. The
hot soup was most welcome on a very chilly evening. Many thanks to
Jamie Pike in the Town Offices for thoughtfully turning up the heat
so the meeting room was warm when the Grangers arrived.
The business meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. The “Socks for
Seniors” program was declared a success and will be done again next
year. Sixty pairs of socks were delivered to Epsom Manor in time for
Christmas. Dictionaries have been delivered to Epsom Central third
graders and Northwood and Barnstead dictionaries will be delivered
soon.
Tentative plans were made for attending the State Grange Winter
Youth Rally on January 31 at the State Grange Building in Hooksett.
There is a new Grange Lecturer’s program this year called “Out and
About.” Grangers in groups of five or more are encouraged to attend
Grange and public social functions with the intention of enriching
their lives and sparking interest in the Grange. Some suggestions of
places and events to visit were discussed.
For the program Fred Carlson shared some facts about calendars and
how they have changed over the years. Not everyone uses the same
calendar even today. For example, January 7, is Christmas for the
Orthodox Church. In keeping with this idea, members closed the
meeting by singing “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
Chichester Grange meets only once during January and February, so
the next meeting will be February 4. It will be Family and Community
Night. The Baking Contest will be judged if the recipes have been
furnished by the State Family Committee before then.
