REMINDER
Jim and Jean Fifty are retiring from Chichester Central School next
month after a collective 75 1/2 years of service to CCS. To honor
them, we are asking everyone to send cards to the school (219 Main
Street - Chichester, NH 03258). The plan and hope is to have a huge
basket of cards to present to them at the end of the year (June 18).
This is a SECRET - please don’t spill the beans! Please spread the
word to everyone who knows them so they too can contribute to this
fond farewell.
On Saturday, May 30, at 2 p.m. Chichester Grange will sponsor a
Memorial Day celebration at the Town Hall on 54 Main Street. It
will begin inside the hall to maximize acoustics and prevent sunburn
and end outside with the placing of a wreath in front of the
Veterans Memorial Stone.
The children of Lucille Randall are hosting an Open House for her
80th birthday and hope that she will be showered with cards. The
Open House will be on Sunday, May 31, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the
Chichester Methodist Parish Hall on Main Street. Please park in the
Town Hall parking lot and walk carefully across the street. If you
cannot attend the open house but would like to send a card, her new
address is PO Box 124, Epsom, NH 03234.
Happy Birthday to Keith Davison, Jr., on June 1st.
Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, June 3, at 7 p.m. upstairs
in the Grange Hall.
Kevin Belval has the program (again!) and Alice Hilliard is in
charge of refreshments.
The Chichester United Methodist Church has a community supper every
second and fourth Wednesday evening at 6:00 from September through
June at the Parish Hall on Main Street. We hope you will come and
join us for Lasagna on May 27th. The last supper of the season will
be a cookout with Chicken, Burgers and Hot Dogs on June 3rd. The
suppers are free, but there is a box for donations which are always
appreciated. Come, bring a friend, and visit with your neighbors or
meet new people.
Remember the Town Wide Yard Sale on June 6. If you are not holding a
sale of your own, the Historical Society and the Firemen’s
Association are looking for donations of your “treasures.”

Chichester Town Library News
We continue to honor our history and veterans by having Bill
Zarakotas, a well-known and local proponent of veterans, present
“Hitler’s Challenges to the International System” on Wednesday, June
3rd, at the Library at 7:00. Bill presented his first program in
this series, “What Led Up to the War” a few years ago. In that
program, Bill focused on the events in Italy, Japan and Germany
which made them ripe for war.
Thursday, May 28th at 10:30 a.m. stories, music and crafts continue
for preschoolers. The happy faces of the youngsters show what a
great time they have.
Monday, June 1st, the Down Cellar Poets are meeting at 7 p.m.
Established poets and poets-in-the-making are all welcome to come.
The Book Club is meeting on Wednesday, June 3rd at noon, at the
Library.
The Craft Group will be changing things up a bit, as they move their
meeting night to June 10th at 6:30 p.m. They will be making a reed
basket; therefore, some experience in basket-making would be
helpful. Materials will cost $10 and the public is invited.
The Library is looking forward to hosting a Farmer’s Market at the
August 22nd Used Book Sale. With gardens being planned and started
at the present time, this is a good opportunity to consider
participating. Any Chichester residents who may be interested in
being a vendor at the market are asked to call Lisa at the Library
at 798-5613.
The Library has invested in an interactive, on-line
catalog. Although still a work in progress, it offers patrons the
ability to see if the Library has a particular book(s) by title,
author and/or subject area. To access the catalogue, go to the Town
website at
www.chichester.org. Then, click on
“Department; Town Library”. In the left-hand column, click “On-Line
Catalogue.” To use the catalog to its fullest extent, you should
create your own personal account using your library card. To do
this, enter either your name as it appears on your library card or
the bar code numbers that appear on your card. Your PIN number is
the last four digits of your home phone number. Once you do this,
you can renew books on line or request a book and an e-mail will be
sent to the librarian. For further information or assistance,
please call the Library.

Letter To The Editor
I’ve been trying to be more politically correct. It seems like I
have offended some people. If you’re reading this and I have
offended you, tough!
I have been complaining for months that we (the town) needed a
change in our goverment. We need people in office that want to be
there, willing to make decisions based on right and wrong, legal or
not legal. Not based on friendships, payoffs, or being scared.
We have many boards. Most, if not all, are short members. Short last
year, short this year, zoning board is short at least two years now.
Planning board is short at least two members, not including
alternates.
For the planning board, three people applied in January, I’ve been
to three meetings. No other applicants have been there . Two
existing members, whose terms are up, are waiting on the selectmen
to make a decision. Keep them or be replaced.
If you can’t make the time available, let somebody who wants to and
can, be the one appointed. We have guidelines, by-laws, and rules,
let’s start enforcing them. If you miss more than 20 percent of the
meetings, you’re out. We have members on different boards that miss
way to many meetings.
Here’s a thought, meet more often, make more decisions. Hard to
discuss a lot of issues in a 20 selectman’s meeting (sic).
We need to stop the good-ole-boy attitude, and start acting like we
want the positions, and willing to look out for the town’s best
interest. Maybe a little more transparency, and less cover ups.
There must be a reason why we are in the end of month five, with few
or no appointees.
