A big thank you to those who bring in nice clean items and clothes
(and thank you to the lady who brought in the camping gear, just the
right time of year.) People need to realize we are not equipped to
hose off items or wash off mold or mildew. We just do not have the
facility or the staff. We truly appreciate those who take the time
and make the effort to drop off clean items so we can pass them
along to our patrons to be re-purposed or reused.

Letter
To the Residents of Pembroke and Chichester:
Among the many difficulties with the recently passed Republican
budget is the downshifting from the state to local communities of
money earmarked for school district. As a state representative who
is also a member of the Pembroke School Board, I am most concerned
by both the reduction of state aid to many local towns and school
districts. In this plan, there are winners and losers. Both Pembroke
and Chichester would be losers. According to research provided by
NHPR, in the proposed the town of Pembroke would lose $341,041 in
state aid ($246,519 municipal; $84,522 school). Chichester would
lose $64,738 ($60,113 municipal; $4,625 school). I voted against
both the House budget, which would have resulted in much more
dramatic losses, and the compromise budget.
These losses in funding would no doubt have to be made up by adding
to the local property tax burden, already regarded by many citizens
as too high. This is a pattern that is all too familiar.
Governor Hassan has vetoed the budget that has come out of the
Committee of Conference, a budget that is unbalanced and reduces
business taxes instead of funding vital services to the people of
New Hampshire, including health and human services, transportation,
and education.
It is vital that the people of New Hampshire educate themselves in
the upcoming debates that will ultimately result in a final budget
and let their representatives and senators know the type of budget
they expect from their state government.
