Help Sought For Family
Of Devastating Epsom House Fire
Submitted by Gerald Faneuf
Unexpected devastation and tragedy can come in a moment, irrevocably
changing lives, as Bill and Judy Small of Epsom recently discovered.
Shortly after midnight on Sunday, January 31, the Smalls were
suddenly awakened by their smoke alarm. They quickly discovered a fire
raging on their first floor. An attempt to call 911 for help was in vain
as by then the phone was not working.
They escaped out of the house with one of their dogs. Bill suffered
from smoke inhalation and minor burns when he attempted to go back into
the house to rescue two more of their pets.
The fire went to three alarms, and despite the best efforts of fire
companies from surrounding towns, the house was a total loss.
Not only did the Smalls suffer the loss of their pets, but also
their entire house and virtually all of their possessions and are now in
the process of trying to rebuild their lives.
This tragedy presents
an opportunity for the community to lend a hand by being supportive in
any way we can. Financial help, in any amount, is paramount and will go
a long way in their recovery.
Anyone wishing to help can mail checks directly to Mr. and Mrs.
William Small, 293 Lord’s Mill Road, Epsom, NH 03234. The post office is
holding their mail for them and the Smalls come in to pick it up.
If you are unable to make a contribution, a card or note of
encouragement would support them also.
While nothing can restore memorabilia and treasured personal
belongings, our community support can surely offer not only financial
help also the encouragement and hope that is needed.
