Old Glory
A
new flag is proudly displayed at the Narrows Fire Station on Main
Street that once flew over the US Capitol. Barbara Frangione, the
Vice-Regent of the Else Cilley Chapter of Daughters of the American
Revolution presented the flag to the Northwood Fire-Rescue in a flag
raising ceremony held last week. The flag was obtained through
Senator Judd Gregg’s office, through the efforts of Northwood
resident and DAR member Jean Lane. Mrs. Lane is chair of the DAR
flag committee and has served in this position for many years.
Members of the Northwood Fire-Rescue were present for the official
raising of the flag along with local citizens.
Northwood Lake Watershed Hosts Weed Control Class
The
Northwood Lake Watershed Association hosted a Department of
Environmental Services “Weed Control” class on August 6 and 7, under
the the direction of Brad Hall, Volunteer Dive Team Coordinator. The
purpose of the class was to certify Divers and instruct Surface
Tenders to harvest milfoil from New Hampshire lakes.
The
class consisted of a 4 hour academics class on Friday night and open
dive training and certification on Saturday. There were 17 divers
and tenders attending the class and the open water training. The
program was a huge success. It was gratifying to see such a
proactive event taking place and milfoil actually being harvested by
our own team. The NLWA now has two divers that are fully certified
and four more that only need to complete the open water instruction
later in August. The NLWA also had 6 Surface Tenders trained to
assist in managing the dives. The class instruction was provided by
Jody Connor, DES Limnology Director and Master Diver, Ted Aldrige.
The instruction quality was outstanding.
The
objective of the NLWA is to build on this great start to our Weed
Control program. Diving is another tool to help us combat milfoil
infestation. Along with our Lake Hosting, Weed Watchers and Water
Quality Testing programs, we are developing a strong foundation to
help maintain the quality of beautiful Northwood Lake for the
great deal of volunteer support and we need more help to assist in
any of the programs mentioned above. Contact us at www.
northwoodlake.com to find out how we can put your talents to work to
help protect our lake.
