New
Novel By Northwood Author
Don
Silva, Northwood resident, is the author of a new novel published in
October by Booklocker of Jacksonville, Florida.
A Trail
of Dreams, Thoreau in Love is set in 1837 in Concord, Massachusetts.
Henry David Thoreau struggles to escape the domination of his mother
and find love while staying true to his dreams. Will Lucy Brown, the
older woman, be his soul-mate? Will it be Ellen Sewall, the young
girl, Mary Russell, the governess, or Margaret Fuller, the feminist?
Who will be Thoreau’s true love?
Silva
published Black Kestrel in 2006, a traditional adventure story. His
books are available at Amazon.com in eBook and paperback, and at
local book stores.
Else
Cilley Chapter NSDAR News
Members
of the Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR toured the Memorial Walkway in
Boscawen, NH following their October meeting. Pictured left to right
are members Lynne Sweet, Norma Perkins, Peg Franz, Jan Gilman and
Barbara Frangione. Photo take by Katherine Fernald.
The
October meeting of the Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR was held at Alan’s
Restaurant in Boscawen, NH. After the meeting and a delicious lunch,
the members headed up the road to the New Hampshire Veterans
Cemetery where they walked on the Memorial Walk. This took the group
past monuments dedicated to all the branches of the armed services
as well as other veterans groups. The brick walkway winds though the
trees, has many places to sit and reflect, and was enjoyed by all
attending.
The
next meeting of the Else Cilley Chapter will be held on Saturday,
November 10, at the Northwood Congregational Church Parish Hall on
Route 4 in Northwood at 10:00 am. The NH State Regent will speak at
the meeting and join the chapter members for a potluck luncheon
honoring the chapters Good Citizens. Certificates and awards will be
presented to deserving local high school seniors.
Women
interested in joining the DAR are encouraged to attend a meeting.
The DAR is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service
organization, dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American
history and securing America’s future through education. The public

Northwood Family Dental Center Moves To New Location
“Dr.
Rick” Vega, left, greets Duane Helton of Helton Builders as he
arrives at the grand opening of Northwood Family Dental Center.
Northwood Family Dental Center has moved to its new location at 1505
First NH Turnpike, just a short distance west from their former
office. The new facility is more visible, larger in size, and
designed to make your dental visit both comfortable and efficient.
Helton
Builders completed the renovation of the former Hudson’s Restaurant
building, both inside and out. The office overlooks Northwood Lake
and has a pleasing new look to travelers going by. A grand opening
was held to celebrate the move, complete with live music of the Eric
Grant band.
Northwood Family Dental Center is served by two dentists: Fredrick
M. Vega, DDS (“Dr. Rick”) and Dr. Jacqueline Cash, D.M.D, C.R.T.,
M.S., assisted by their dental hygienists and professional staff.
They are welcoming new patients at this time.
Letter
I
congratulate Bruce Hodgdon on his win of the NH House seat to
represent Rockingham District 1. He will join a House returned to a
Democratic majority. I wish him the very best.
Thank
you so much to all the Northwood residents who voted for me, the
ones I have known for years as I got involved in serving this town,
the ones I met while out knocking on doors, and especially that
special group of people who helped me on my campaign and the
campaigns of many other Democrats over the past decade. Our work
has paid off in so many ways this year, with the election of Annie
Kuster as our Congresswoman, Maggie Hassan as our Governor, Chris
Pappas as our Executive Councilor, and Barack Obama as our President
for another 4 years.
While
we are no longer in Congressional District NH-01, I was especially
delighted by the win by Carol Shea-Porter. Her return to the US
House will be a great improvement in the quality of our
representation. And what can we say about our all-woman delegation
to Congress and in the corner office at the State House? Women
spoke up in rallies and at the ballot box, saying, “We will not go
backward!”
There
is lots of work to be done. I already have ideas of what to do next.
There are issues that matter enormously to me and groups of
concerned citizens I can join. Climate change and campaign finance
reform come to mind immediately. It will be my pleasure to share all
the ideas and suggestions for legislation that we develop with my
state representative because we learned in the past two years that
NH does much better when the legislation comes from inside rather
than outside the state.

To The Editor
I would
like to thank the voters of Northwood for electing me as your state
representative and for the 78% voter turnout.
Thank
you for allowing me to place those annoying signs in front of your
homes and along the roadside. I would like also to thank those who
wrote letters to the editor, called and e-mailed with questions and
words of encouragement to run for this office.
I am
looking forward to going to the State House to represent the people
of Northwood.
Thank
You,
Bruce
Hodgdon
