Letter To The Editor
To the
Editor,
First,
did you see the reduction in your taxes in the new tax bills that
just went out. The rate is based on four entities. The Town and
State School rates were up slightly. The County rate was down very
slightly. The local School rate was down an amazing 89 cents per
thousand of your property value. A taxpayer with a $300,000 home
saved $267.00, Awesome.
I want
to address a letter that came in from a Northwood Resident. The
School budget was approved by you last March and it included a very
large purchase of Netbook computers and other related technology. We
have been far behind other similar schools in integrating technology
to our education process. He wanted assurance that all of this
technology would be used for the purpose of “higher learning and not
a giveaway for pre-teens to engage in social media”. He is
absolutely right when he said “there are a lot of people in town
watching how this turns out”.
Yes,
yes and absolutely yes. Working with the SAU the School Board has
put together a very good policy to regulate how this equipment will
be used. There are multiple safeguards, lockouts and controls to
insure that this equipment will be used specifically for higher
learning. The new policy was established by incorporating great
input from schools that have used similar technology for years and
the savvy of several Board members that understand it all. If you
are interested I can get you the policy to review. There is a $25
fee, non-refundable, and a very cheap complete insurance available
to those issued a Netbook computer. Thank you for your support and
thank you for keeping us on our toes. Trust, but verify.

Northwood Congregational Church Announcement
Maren
C. Tirabassi offers a light hearted holiday program featuring
excerpts from her new book, The Shakespeare Reader and other
Christmas Tales at Northwood Congregational Church, 881 First NH
Turnpike (Route 4), Northwood on Wednesday, December 17th at 6:00pm.
The
three short stories in the book are set during the waning light of
the holiday season. The Dark Ride is a tale about a retired couple
trying to make a go of a failing Shakespeare-themed amusement park
in rural New Hampshire…and a young man who befriends them named
Will! Enter Friar Stage Left is a contemporary Romeo and Juliet
story told by a young pastor facing his first Christmas in a new
church. The Shakespeare Reader introduces us to Benedict, who
fancies himself a sleuth based on the Shakespearean plots he
imagines bubbling around the comings and goings of his colorful
Harvard Square neighbors.
Maren
Tirabassi is the author of nineteen books, including the recent From
the Psalms to the Cloud and Caring for Ourselves while Caring for
our Elders, a previous Poet Laureate of Portsmouth, New Hampshire,
and currently the pastor of Union Congregational Church, UCC of
Madbury, NH.
Maren’s
program asks the question – what makes any story, from Dickens to a
December episode of Modern Family, a “Christmas story?” Come and
enjoy refreshments and laughter. She may even invite the audience to
try a little storytelling of their own.
