Else Cilley Chapter, NSDAR, Nottingham
The
Else Cilley Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution held
its June meeting at the historic Nottingham Schoolhouse in
Nottingham, NH. Following delicious refreshments provided by
members Barbara Frangione of Chichester and Peg Franz of
Rochester, Regent Nancy Gervino of East Hampstead led a Flag
Fact Quiz program. This month’s agenda included the various
reports from officers and committee chairman including American
History, Constitution, and National Defense messages.
Of special interest was information from the Ways and
Means committee. Katherine Fernald has secured a handmade well
house to raffle as part of this year’s fundraisers. All
proceeds will be used for maintenance and restoration of the
Nottingham Square Schoolhouse located on Ledge Farm Road in
Nottingham, NH.
The
original Schoolhouse was built in 1770 and rebuilt in 1850. It
was used as a schoolhouse until 1920. The Else Cilley Chapter,
a non-profit, founded in Nottingham in 1898 has taken ownership
and maintained the Schoolhouse since then. The winner will be
drawn at Nottingham Day, September 19, 2015. You do not need to
be present to win. Free delivery to New Hampshire residents can
be arranged. All checks can be make payable to the Else Cilley
Chapter, NSDAR. For tickets or more information, please contact
Katherine at [email protected] or
(603) 396-9132. Thank you for your support.
The
next meeting of the Else Cilley Chapter will be held at the
Nottingham Square Schoolhouse on Saturday, July 16, beginning at
1:30 p.m. State Regent Phyllis Gagnon will present a program on
the Children’s Attic, the New Hampshire sponsored room in the
NSDAR Museum in Washington DC.
Women interested in joining the DAR are encouraged to attend a
meeting. The public is always welcome. The DAR is a
non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization
dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history,

Letter To The Editor
Attention Northwood Parents Of Cbna Students
A
new school bus contract was recently signed by the School Board.
Currently there are three CBNA buses with stops on many of our
side roads. Under the new contract there will only be TWO
buses, and most stops will be on Routes 4, 43, or 202. Students
living on side roads must walk or get transported up to 1.5
miles to their designated bus stop on narrow, curving, icy roads
in pouring rain or bitter winds and snow. Parents, are you able
to drive your students to the bus stop and pick them up in the
afternoon, or will they walk?
The
NH Department of Education agreed RSA 189:8 states if any
student is walking to an approved bus stop, they shall not be
subjected to unsafe conditions while walking to that stop, and
all bus stops must be approved by the SB and in a safe
location.
Where will the approved Route 4 stops be located? Who will plow
the areas for students to wait? Will there be a shelter or must
they stand waiting in the weather? A question I didn’t ask:
Will 2 buses transport the same number of students as are
transported on 3 buses, or will some students have no
transportation?
The
only reason to cut the 3rd CBNA bus is to save $25,000, a very
small amount to pay for the safety of all our students. The
board refused my request to reconsider their decision at both
the 6/4/15 & 6/18/15 meetings, and when asked “when do you plan
to inform the parents”, I received no answer. I believe you
should be informed as early as possible. If this change affects
your family, contact the SAU or individual board members to ask
your questions or voice your concerns. Let’s keep all our
students safe.

Meet Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals on Saturday, July 11, at 2:00
p.m. at the Northwood Masonic Hall. Lindsay’s highly
interactive, comedic performances delight the young and the
young at heart. Her jumbo sized, hand crafted puppets charm even
the most timid audience members and provide lovable characters
for thoughtful and memorable short tales. Kids are known to
chatter about their favorite crazy puppets for weeks after a
show! The Chesley Memorial Library received a Kids, Books & The
Arts grant for this program. Funding for the Kids, Books, and
the Arts event is provided by the Jack and Dorothy Byrne
Foundation, CHILIS, Cogswell Benevolent Trust, and is supported
in part by a grant from the NH State Council on the Arts & the
National Endowment for the Arts as well as funds administered by
the NH State Library and provided by the Institute of Museum and
Library Services.
