Pittsfield Clothes Closet
We have been busy at the Clothes
Closet since we returned to management last November. (It has
been easier the second time around!) Patrons have been generous
with donations and our volunteers keep active processing items
and distributing them for sale in the shop. Holidays will be
here before we know it so this is a good time to educate
newcomers about our facility and include reminders for those who
have supported us over the years.
The Clothes Closet is
located to the rear of the building that houses the new TOY
STORE on the corner of Depot and Carroll Streets facing Rite
Aid. We are a nonprofit operation dependent on contributions of
clothing and household items for resale and completely staffed
by volunteers. We pay rent and our utilities. If we are able to
build up a fund, we give donations to local organization and
those with emergency needs.
Please be aware of our open
hours. (Tues., Wed.: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sat.: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.)
and our plea to donate only items that are in condition to be
resold. Unfortunately, all thrift shops are at times recipients
of items that are simply dropped off for convenience. The
persons who recently dropped off several bugs and boxes outside
our door to be ruined by a night’s rain did no service for the
shop or the community. We are grateful for the majority of
patrons who are cooperative and caring. Especially do we thank
those who graciously honored a recent request to refrain from
leaving donations until we can organize and deal with what we
have. As soon as we can make space, we welcome your donations.

Participate in Lights On Afterschool!
On Thursday, October
22, 2009, from 4-6 p.m. the Pittsfield Youth Workshop (PYW) will
be holding an Open House for Lights On Afterschool. We hope you
drop by, ask questions and see what we have to offer the youth
in Pittsfield.
7,500 communities and 1 million Americans will
be celebrating afterschool programs at the Afterschool
Alliance’s 10th annual Lights On Afterschool! This
nationwide event calls attention to the importance of
afterschool programs and the resources required to keep the
lights on and the doors open. The Pittsfield Youth Workshop is
proud to be a Lights On Afterschool National Supporting
Organization.
Too many children - 14.3 million - are
missing out on afterschool opportunities. Participate in Lights
On Afterschool and help call attention to this important issue.
Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families and
inspire learning. In the U.S. today, too many children go home
alone after school.
To learn more about Lights On
Afterschool, register an event, access Event Planning Tools, or
find out what is going on in our/your area on October 22, visit
www.afterschoolalliance.org. Lights On Afterschool is a
project of the Afterschool Alliance, a nonprofit organization
dedicated to ensuring that all children have access to
afterschool programs.
Good News For Pittsfield Players Patrons!
For three years now
the Pittsfield Players have offered the convenience of buying
show tickets through
www.pittsfieldplayers.com using the TicketLeap link. The
ease of using a credit card to purchase tickets and to reserve
online has prompted many theater-goers who may not normally
attend to purchase tickets. Unfortunately, once they got to the
theatre they were still required to stand in line and pick up
their physical ticket so that the players could have an accurate
account of tickets sold through the box office.
Good news! We
heard your frustration and have corrected the problem. Ticket
Leap ticket holders will have a separate line that will enable
them to enter the theater without stopping at the box office and
have their seating expedited by the ushers. The Pittsfield
Players realize that Ticket Leap users spend a little bit more
money to use the convenience of Ticket Leap and want to make
your experience as efficient as possible. When you enter the
theatre lobby for the next performance of Big River, just look
for the Ticket Leap sign and you’ll be on your way to finding
your reserved seats.
Ladies Aid
Submitted By Joan Riel
The Ladies Aid of the
First Congregational Church in Pittsfield met in the church
vestry the afternoon of October 5th. The meeting was opened by
President, Freda Jones and began with devotions by Arlene
Martin, a reading appropriate for the fall season, “Only Loaned”
by Garnett Ann Shultz. Joan Riel read “To Be A Pumpkin,” then
all joined in the Lord’s Prayer.
The Secretary, Joan Riel,
gave her report of the September meeting and read
correspondence. The Treasurer, Audrey Moore, gave her financial
report of savings and checking accounts.
Members voted to
continue the same slate of officers for the coming year, namely,
President, Freda Jones; Vice President, Louise Kenney;
Secretary, Joan Riel; Treasurer, Audrey Moore.
At the
November meeting, plans will be discussed for the food table at
the annual Christmas Fair on November 21st. This is the groups
only fundraiser each year. At the December meeting, the bags
that were previously made, will be filled with candies and tied,
to be distributed to seniors during the Christmas Season.
Delicious refreshments were served at the close of the meeting a
joint effort by some of those attending. The afternoon came to a
close with all joining in the Mizpah Benediction.
