Barnstead Firefighters Complete Training

Barnstead Firefighter/EMT Gary Doucette graduated from the New Hampshire Fire Academy Company Officer Program on October 22, 2010.

The Fire Officer Program and the New Hampshire Fire Academy are accredited by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications.  The class is a rigorous 6 weeks program that includes classroom time; practical exercises and scenarios; as well as take home research projects.   The Fire Officer program is designed to teach firefighters to look beyond the traditional nut and bolts of emergency response and to focus on looking at the big picture; command and control; and leadership.  Firefighter Doucette has been a member of Barnstead Fire Rescue since 2002.  Gary is a career firefighter/EMT and serves as the department training officer.

Firefighter/Paramedic Tim Robbins has completed a 40 hour certification class on child passenger safety seats.  This certification allows Tim to evaluate child passenger restraints and make recommendations on ways to improve the safety of children riding in motor vehicles.  Nationwide it is estimated that 4 out of 5 child passenger seats are installed incorrectly.  Based on these national statistics, Tim’s participation in this program will prove to be a valuable asset to the community. Firefighter Robbins has been a member of Barnstead Fire Rescue since 1998.

To help ensure your child passenger seats are installed correctly you can schedule an appointment to have the seats inspected by calling 269-4121.

Congratulations to Gary and Tim on their accomplishments.

Barnstead Old Home Day
We Need More People To Help

Barnstead Old Home Day is in need of volunteers to join the Old Home Day Committee and help organize Old Home Day 2011.  Old Home Day 2010 did not occur because we did not have enough people to help run the Old Home Day Committee.  Don’t let that happen again this year! We welcomed a couple of new committee members at our October meeting, but we are still in need of volunteers.

The 2011 Old Home Day Committee is having a meeting on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.  Please join us and show your support for Barnstead Old Home Day by agreeing to volunteer to help plan the 2011 event.

If you are not able to attend the November 10th meeting but do want to help, please call Peggy Sweeney at 435-6505 or Eileen Murley at 435-6692 for more information.

Letter To The Editor

Dear Editor:
I have a poem I would like to share with your readers.  It was written by my niece, Shanna Tiede, and presented to my family after my son’s death.  Although the pain of losing a son is still sharp and sometimes overwhelming I have found some peace in knowing that I will see Patrick again one day.  Patrick left this world with the knowledge that he was going to a better place.  He knew that “Jesus was the way, the truth and the life.”  I hope your readers will find the beauty and hope that is in this poem.

Lily Clark

Gray was the day we committed you to rest,
Bleak and veiled from the start
For heavy with sorrow and laden with grief
Were the burdens of every heart

No waking thought could capture
The splendor behind those clouds
To where the veil of mist is ended
And rolled back are the shrouds

Far beyond our feeble thinking
Beyond understanding and dream
In resplendent glory lit
By heaven’s holy beam.

Radiance unmatched, immeasurable
Like a glittering sea beyond this earth
Countless, those who came to mourn you
Surely showed the world your worth.

But worth far greater than life on earth
Is your destination in eternity
There is the place Jesus has prepared,
I know you now rest peacefully.

Whether this earth be gray or clouded
This knowledge shall I bear;
That you have reached the shores of heaven
And we’ll one day meet you there.

In loving memory
Patrick James Clark
