Another
special day of activity at the Pittsfield Area Senior Center is planned.
On Friday, November 19th, beginning at 10 am, a craft exhibit will be on
display and there will be a time of “show and tell” as well. Bring
your work to share with others and if there is something you would like
to learn, speak to Leslie and future activities can be planned.
Keep the date of December 11th open for a Christmas Concert of
special music to be given that evening at the First Congregational
Church in Pittsfield. Watch the local columns for weekly updates.

Thanksgiving Day 2010
True thankfulness is more than
being grateful for what we possess. It is an attitude that allows
a compassionate relationship amongst civilized people.
Hunger.
The homeless. Chronic diseases. Ignorance. Unemployment.
Untimely deaths. (to name a few calamities) These are words; these
are things that should have nothing to do with Thanksgiving Day.
However, despair threatens to reach out to what is most precious to us;
our children, our legacy, our future.
The compassion equation:
beliefs + action = love + help. It’s in the heart that counts.
When you see or know of someone in need, love demands a loving deed;
don’t just say you love them true, prove it by the deeds you do.
Thanksgiving prayers for: Our leaders that they provide us with a
good government; our military around the globe serving, protecting, and
defending; our civil servants that provide protection, peace, and
security (police, fire, and rescue); employers that provide jobs to
people who need work, to support themselves and their families; social
and medical personnel, that provide service to the sick and homeless,
for their troubled souls and ailing bodies; you and me my fellow
citizens; for those in the world who are alone. Help them realize
that they are never really alone (we’re there for them).
Happy
Thanksgiving Day everyone! May God continue to Bless America, Land
of the Free and Home of the Brave?

The Truth
Project
What is truth? How would you define truth?
The
Center Barnstead Christian Church Adult Sunday School class has
begun a series called “The Truth Project”, which is a DVD-based
curriculum taught by Dr. Del Tackett.
This study is the starting
point for looking at life from a biblical perspective. Each lesson
discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living the
Christian world view in daily life.
As it has been throughout
history, God continues to call ordinary people to make an eternal
difference in our world. The Truth Project begins by defining
truth as “that which conforms to reality.” But it’s much deeper
than that.
This study will serve as a catalyst for examining one’s
personal world view, which we define as “the set of individual truth
claims which I embrace so deeply that I believe they reflect what is
really real. Therefore, they drive what I think, how I act, and
what I feel.”
Many people today, unfortunately most people, don’t
seem to think that there is any universal standard of absolute truth.
But we believe differently. For us, the “truth” is God’s truth, as
set forth supremely and most definitively in the Bible – and we regard
this truth to be absolute in the sense that it cannot be compromised and
is not open to purely subjective interpretation. Ultimately, we
cannot dissect the truth; we can only proclaim it.
Come join us
Sunday mornings at 9:00 AM, as we continue through this important series
on Truth. The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on
Route 126, next to the Town Hall. For more information please
contact the church at 269-8831.

Special Education?
“The evidence is now beyond dispute. When schools
work together with families to support learning, children tend to
succeed not just in school, but throughout life.” A New
Generation of Evidence, Henderson and Beria (1994, p.1).
Three
decades of research have demonstrated that parent-family involvement is
a “critical element of effective schooling”. (Mental Health
in Schools Training and Technical Assistance Center, 1996).
Allyson
Vignola, community member, and Anna Williams, Director of Special
Education at Barnstead Elementary School, are partnering together to
offer the 1st of a series of meetings designed to:
•Promote family,
school, and community partnerships.
•Offer an opportunity to build
relationships.
•Provide information to parents.
•Provide an
opportunity to share experiences and resources.
•Develop a mutual
respect and understanding for the various roles that we play in the
education of our children.
WHEN: Thursday, November 18, 2010, at 6:30

I
am deeply humbled and honored that the voters of District 4 selected me
as their next State Senator. I want to wish my opponent Andrew Hosmer
and his family all the best. I know very well how much of a strain a
campaign is on the family, and I appreciate the sacrifices they made
during this campaign. I also would like to congratulate Senator Sgambati,
on her retirement. She put in a lot of time and effort to serve as the
lakes region Senator for four years.
I am extremely grateful for all
the hard work of our volunteers who made our campaign a success.
Together, we knocked on over 10,000 doors, made thousands of phone
calls, and distributed literature to the entire district. To everyone
who helped out by driving me around, showing your support at an event,
or standing outside of the polls, I extend my sincerest gratitude. I am
also incredibly grateful for my two campaign managers - Zach Azem and
Andrew Sharp.
The over-riding message of our campaign was that
we need to reduce spending to reduce taxes on businesses and property
owners in order to create jobs. Now that we are past the election, the
difficult work to achieve this begins.
We need to keep in mind
that, while the Republicans won veto-proof majorities in the Senate and
House, our job is to represent all of the residents of New Hampshire.
Above all, we must work to ensure that government remains a servant of
the people, and not the other way around.
Again, I am honored to have
the opportunity to serve you as your next State Senator. I look
forward to hearing from you over the next two years about how I can
better represent you in Concord.

Letter To
The Editor
Dear Editor:
I would like to express my thanks to the
voters of Belknap District 5. I am grateful for the confidence you have
placed in me.
There are many issues facing our state. Issues that we
have all talked about at the dinner table. A lot of our friends and
family members have had to make difficult decisions about which bills
will be paid first, if at all.
The last few years have seen many new
and increased taxes. If we are to prosper once more, this needs to be
addressed. The decisions that I make in Concord, on your behalf,
will reflect that reality.
Please let me know what issues are of
concern to you. I’m your representative, and will be glad to make myself
available whenever I can, because I work for you. I can be reached by
phone (603) 776-8989 or email:
[email protected].
Thank you again for your trust.
