The University of Hartford, College of Arts and Sciences, recognizing outstanding scholastic achievement, have placed Jessica G. Russell, of Barnstead, NH on the Dean’s List for the Fall 2009 semester. The Dean’s List is based on the student’s scholastic average of 3.25 or better out of a possible 4.0 and have no grade below C. Jessica is a 2009 graduate of Prospect Mountain High School. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree.



 

Area Youth To Participate In The Inaugural Ihoops Skills Challenge


iHoops is the official youth basketball initiative of the NCAA and NBA.  Local youngsters ages 9 to 14 have the opportunity to participate in the Inaugural iHoops Skills Challenge. This national basketball skills competition provides boys and girls a free opportunity to showcase their basketball abilities in a time-based, half-court obstacle course. The iHoops Skills Challenge focuses on basketball skill development while encouraging participation in the game.


BARNSTEAD PARKS AND REC is proud to host this free iHoops Skills Challenge for area youth. 


Date: SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27TH
Time: 10 – 2 PM 
Location: PROSPECT MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL


Participants may register the day of the event.  A copy of the registration/waiver form is available online at www.iHoops.com/skillschallenge.   A birth certificate is required for all first & second place finishers.


1st Place Champions from this Local Competition will have the opportunity to advance to one (1) of twenty-nine (29) Regional Competitions occurring in NBA team markets across the country in hopes of advancing to the National Finals in Orlando, Florida.

Total Money Makeover LIVE Simulcast


Center Barnstead Christian Church will be hosting Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover Live Simulcast. This is the largest event on personal finance in the country! Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover LIVE is an action-packed, entertaining event that will change the way you think about money. You will learn how to create a game plan to get out of debt, make a system for your money that works, save money like never before, invest with confidence, start a legacy of financial wisdom for future generations, and how to get on the same page with your spouse about money. The Simulcast will take place on March 13th. The cost is $15 for an individual, $25 for a couple. If you are a graduate of Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University, we are offering a discount of $10 for an individual and $15 dollars for a couple. Moms 4 Moms


The next MOMS 4 MOMS meeting is Thursday, February 25th at the Center Barnstead Christian Church from 8:45 - 10:45 AM. This group is for moms of children up through school age. During this meeting we will be learning how to make homemade bread and soup - perfect for keeping the family warm on these cold days! This event as well as childcare for your children is free. For more information about these meetings please contact the church at 269-8831. The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall.

 


 

Barnstead Library Sponsors Meet The Candidates Night


Meet the Candidates Night will be held on Wednesday, February 24th at 7:00 p.m. at the Barnstead Town Hall. The Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead is pleased to sponsor this event again this year.


All candidates for Town and School offices have been invited to attend and be on the panel. There are several different Town and School positions open this year. Come and talk with the candidates. Bring along your questions and have a chance to hear the candidates speak on the issues.


PLEASE NOTE: There is NO snow date for this program. If the weather conditions are so terrible that we cannot travel safely, then the program will be canceled.

 


Obituaries


 

Edison E. Richardson


Edison E. Richardson, age 79, of Ridge Road in Middleton, died February 10, 2010 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester.


Born June 24, 1930 and raised in Farmington, son of the late Alfred J. and Blanche (Daniels) Richardson, he resided in Middleton for 4 years, resided in Barnstead for 10 years and resided in Farmington for many years.


He was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps.


Edison was a retired Construction Worker, a Foreman with R.G. Watkins.


He especially enjoyed restoring Model T’s. He also enjoyed his player piano and loved moose hunting in Newfoundland.


Widower of the late Ruth (Boyd) Richardson, who died in 2003, he is survived by 3 children: Carol Richardson of Middleton, Constance Connick and Thomas Richardson, both of Farmington, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 brothers and sisters, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

 
As per his request, there will be no services. Interment will be in the spring at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. If desired, memorial donations may be made in his memory to his family to help defray the funeral expense c/o Thomas Richardson, 133 NH Route 11, Farmington, NH 03835.
