Happy Birthday to Laverne Bly on December 8.

The Barnstead Historical Society now has 2012 calendars at the Barnstead Town Office for sale. They depict pictures of historical barns in Barnstead and they would make great Christmas presents at a reasonable price. Come in and check them out.

The Belknap County Democrats will hold their annual Holiday party Tuesday, December 13th, beginning at 6:00 pm, at Hector’s, 53 Beacon Street West, Laconia. Join old friends and make new ones while celebrating the holiday season and looking forward to the upcoming year.

Light fare will be provided, and drinks and meals may be ordered from the restaurant. Donations and contributions are welcome to cover the costs and contribute to our work during the 2012 elections.

Barnstead Firefighters Association Thanks Anonymous Donor

Barnstead Boot Drive.JPG

Following the creation of the municipal Barnstead Fire Rescue Department in 2010, members of the former private fire company have formed a new not-for-profit firefighters support association named Barnstead Firefighters Association. The purpose of Barnstead Firefighters Association is to provide additional support and aid to the town’s Fire Rescue Department, at no cost to the taxpayers.

Consistent with that goal, in September 2011, Barnstead Firefighters Association made a major financial contribution toward the purchase of a Kubota Off Highway Recreational Vehicle (OHRV) with trailer for the municipal Barnstead Fire Rescue Department. Because of the sizable contribution from the Barnstead Firefighters Association, the purchase of the OHRV and trailer was accomplished without using any town funds raised by taxation. Additional funds for the purchase of the OHRV and trailer were donated by the Globe Manufacturing Company and by the estate of Marion Henderson of Center Barnstead. This vehicle will be used to provide transportation to forest fires and rescue to injured or ill persons in locations not accessible by over-the-road vehicles.

Following the purchase of this OHRV for the town’s Fire Rescue Department, members of Barnstead Firefighters Association are now raising funds to equip the OHRV with tracks to improve its mobility in rough terrain and to enable year-round use of the vehicle. Towards this goal, on Saturday, October 15, 2011 Barnstead Firefighters Association ran a Boot Drive in front of Barnstead’s Station 2 located on South Barnstead Road (Route 126) in Center Barnstead. Members were able to collect $1731.96 toward the $5200.00 needed for the purchase of tracks for the OHRV. Many thanks to every person who donated to the Boot Drive.

The success of this Boot Drive was largely due to a single donation of $1000.00 from an extremely generous anonymous donor. Barnstead Firefighters Association wishes to sincerely thank this individual for his magnanimity.

If any community member is interested in further information about the Barnstead Firefighters Association, please contact John Savage at 834-2649.

Census Time In Bethlehem

The Center Barnstead Christian Church would like to invite you to see our Christmas Musical Program, "Census Time in Bethlehem". This musical takes place in Bethlehem, as Mary and Joseph try to convince the local census-taker, Mr. B. A. Countable, that they really do know their unborn baby is a boy, and he already has a name; several names, as a matter of fact. Poor Mr. Countable becomes more and more confused as new visitors arrive to worship the newborn baby, but everyone calls him something different. Come and hear some of the names of Jesus. There will also be some refreshments that will follow the performance.

Mark your calendars and bring the family Sunday, December 11th at 6:00 pm. The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall. For more information, please call the church at 269-8831.
