Barnstead School District
In an effort to comply with State and
Federal Laws governing special education, to maintain eligibility for
Federal Funding, to engage in sound long range planning and to provide
evaluation and programming where appropriate, the Barnstead School
District is making a conscientious effort to identify potentially
disabled individuals residing within its jurisdiction.
Parents of
children up to 21 years of age who suspect that a child may be
educationally disabled, are invited to contact their local school
special education director. Assessments will be performed to
determine if children qualify for special education programs and
services. Areas to be screened will include hearing, vision,
communication, cognition, and motor functioning.
For further
information, parents would contact their local school and ask to speak
to the Special Education Director: Anna Williams, Barnstead Elementary
School, 269-5161.
Barnstead
Parks And Recreation Vision 2011
Submitted By Judy Chase, Chair
Please allow us to clarify the role of Barnstead Parks and Recreation as
it currently exists and to seek community support for the development of
a more structured program.
Barnstead Parks and Recreation is
volunteer driven. We do not have a Parks and Recreation Director
or paid employees (with the exception of Beach Attendants). P&R is
funded through taxpayers dollars. Your soccer and basketball programs
are self-supporting through user fees, and are not school-run programs,
although the school facilities are used. P&R coordinates these
programs (volunteer recruitment, registration, practice/game scheduling,
uniforms, equipment, etc.), which wouldn’t happen without our terrific
volunteer coaches!
Parks and Recreation manages a budget
of approximately $25,000. This volunteer driven branch of the town
is responsible for the Town Beach ($4000 to recruit, hire, schedule and
oversee beach attendants), Summer Concert Series ($5000 to schedule,
contract and publicize performances), Ice Rink/Big River Recreation
Renovations ($5000), Maintenance of grounds and facilities ($6000) and
Programs ($5000).
While volunteer management of particular
programs remains the ideal, we are suggesting that a Parks and Rec
Coordinator, stipend-funded, be appointed by the Selectmen. This
position will oversee, develop and implement procedures and policies
associated with recreational programs and facilities, work
collaboratively with local groups to provide low-cost/no-cost recreation
and other related community services for persons of all ages.
The stipend is to come from within the current budget.
Further, we suggest that a Parks and Rec Commission be established,
consisting of 5 citizens, who serve two year, and appointed by the
selectmen. Their specific duties will be guided by New
Hampshire RSA 35-B.
We hope that the people of Barnstead
continue to value the services of Parks and Recreation and support the
vision we are suggesting. Thank you.
