Zachary
Thoroughgood, 12, of Center Barnstead shot his first turkey on Youth
Weekend. He was hunting with his dad Craig and his grampa “Rocket” when
he shot about 45 yards and got a 21 pound turkey. Congrats Zach!

The
Nighthawk Hollow Seniors of Barnstead met at the Barnstead Town Hall on
May 1, 2013 at 12 noon and enjoyed a delicious pot luck lunch and a
brief business meeting. Members had fashioned beautiful, original, cute
and funny May baskets which were judged. Christine Sanborn’s entry won
and the prize was a small box of chocolates.
At the June
5th meeting we will play games. There will not be any meetings in July
and August. Meetings will resume in September.
New members
are always welcome and dues are only $4.00 a year. Please contact
President, Christine Sanborn at 875-2676 for more information.

The family
of Roy Sargent would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support,
and prayers during his illness and passing.
It was
comforting to know Roy touched so many people, which was shown by the
phone calls, cards, letters, and food.
We want to
thank everyone who sent donations in memory of Roy to the Hospice House
and staff in Concord.
A special
thanks to all the people who attended his memorial service and wonderful

Letter
Another
Thank You!
To the
groups and individuals who take on the “nasty” job of clearing the trash
along our roads, especially Route 28 through Barnstead. This is a
continuous job and we appreciate it. Also during Earth Day, a group
cleared a portion of our road, White Oak. Thank you to all, it looked
great.
A special
thanks to our young grandchildren, 8 year old grandson and 7 year old
granddaughter and their parents. They cleared both sides of the road
from their house to ours, stopping at our house to sort the trash on the
way to the dump. Our grandson made the comment, “Some people are very
nasty, they have no respect for our earth.” How true! The very next day
we picked up several pieces in front of our house.
Thanks
again to all involved.
Sincerely,
Dick and
Holly Bickford

Men’s
Breakfast
The Center
Barnstead Christian Church will be hosting a free Men’s Breakfast this
Saturday, May 18th at 7:30 AM. David Baguma will be the speaker this
month. David is from Uganda, Africa, and will be soon married to Heidi
Gower.
As a teen,
David came to know Jesus as his Savior and saw the need to impact others
for Christ. He began working with Word of Life. Then in 2008 he
attended Missionary-In-Training where he was brought on board as a WOL
missionary.
Currently,
David disciples university students at two universities in Kampala and
also helps with the IT needs of the ministry. David will be sharing
more about the ministry both he and Heidi will have when they return to
Uganda during the breakfast. All men are invited to come.
The Center
Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town
Hall.
For more information contact the church at 269-8831.
Thanks For
A Great Night!
Spring was
“sung-in” at the Cabin Fever Dessert Concert a couple of weeks ago, just
like we brought in New Years with the Milk and Cookies Concert. We owe
many thanks to the Barnstead, Chichester, Northwood, Gilmanton and Alton
community members who attended and supported this fabulous benefit
concert for the Congregational Church of North Barnstead. With lots of
desserts and another sell out crowd who said “more, more, more, more!”
what is not to love about great music and lots of desserts?
We enjoyed
jazz by Savoya who appear at the Onions Pub in the Tilton Inn and will
also be at the jazz bar this summer in the Weirs. With Sureya Felch on
vocals, Jeremy Morse guitar, Chris Gilb on bass and Lee Anne Ames on
saxophone, this talented young quartet played jazz and Bosa Nova
favorites you know and love.
Naughty and
Nice kicked off the evening with original folk music that was lyrical,
fun and had us all laughing. Cheryl Sager and Peg Chaffee have performed
for years in various musical venues and we encourage you to pick up
their new CD Mixing it Up to be released soon (or one of their old
ones!).
Our very
own Barnstead queen of music, Chris Bonoli and The Blues Monsters are
always a hit and they had talent galore! Sitting in were (sore leg) Lew
Joslyn on spoons, Ken Burt and Richard Gardzina on saxophone, TJ Jones
(weapons of mass percussion), Chris Gilb on bass, and the one and only
Marty Wintje on flaming electric lead guitar.
A night
like this is only possible because of community members who care and
support it. Thanks for singing “Hey Jude” to properly end the concert
once again. Watch for more information on the fall concert slated for
October 5, Saturday night! If you’re out and about in
August, Chris Bonoli and the Blues Monsters will be performing on August
10 for the Barnstead Summer Concert Series. Stop By!
