Parks & Rec Archery Sign Ups

The Parks and Rec archery program is in full swing, but there is still plenty room for children ages 8-18 who wish to join us.  Classes are held at Big River Recreation Area each Friday, now through the fall.  Archers are grouped by age, with children aged 8-12 shooting from 5:00-6:30 pm, and children 13 and older shooting from 6:30-8:00 pm (or until dark).  Simply show up at Big River Recreation Area at the appropriate class time and someone will assist you with registration.  Participants must provide their own arm guard and safety glasses.  Children ages 8-12 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.  Parks and Recreation will also gladly accept donated latex balloons for use on the targets.  As always, thank you for your support of this and all Parks and Recreation programs

Tore Down House

Barnstead Parks and Recreation is excited to welcome Tore Down House to the summer concert stage on Saturday, August 16.  Based out of Manchester, this three member Rock/Blues/ Jam band has been performing live for years.  TDH plays many classic rock and blues favorites as well as some you rarely hear other bands perform.  In addition, TDH has its own original songs that are always well received.  Covering tunes from Charlie Daniels, the Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd,  Pink Floyd, the Marshall Tucker Band, CCR, (their play list goes on, and on and on…), this is sure to be one of those not to be missed rock experiences right here in our own back yard.  Come see for yourself the no holds barred performance this band promises to deliver.  The show kicks off at 6:00 pm.

Gilmanton-Barnstead Explorer Post 900 will be on hand offering concessions.  Please be sure to stop by and show your support for our future first responders.  See you at the show!  As always, smoking, alcohol and glass containers are prohibited on the Parade Grounds

Nighthawk Hollow Seniors

Submitted By Beverly A. Goodrich, Secretary

The Nighhawk Hollow Seniors met at the Barnstead Town Hall at noon on August 6, 2014. Members enjoyed sandwiches, drinks and York Peppermint Patties.

The business meeting was followed by members reminiscing about their childhood years. What fun we had? There were many humorous things that came to mind. Also, we spoke of our first jobs and school memories. It was a great program, and Betty Hyman declared the meeting a success!

Our next meeting will be on September 3 at noon at the Barnstead Town Hall. We will be playing LCR. Please bring $5 worth of dines. This is a simple, fun game, Also, bring your own sandwich, drink, and you favorite teddy bear for the Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

The meeting adjourned at 1:45.

New members are most welcome. Dues are only $4 a year. For more information, please call the President at 875-2676.
