Taize’ Worship Service Ash Wednesday

Congregational Church Of North Barnstead

The Congregational Church of North Barnstead (CCNB) cordially invites you to attend a Taize’ Worship Service, Ash Wednesday, February 18, at 5:30 p.m.

Taize’ is an informal, ecumenical worship service with a focus on reconciliation, social justice, and peace. Comprised of Scripture readings, prayer, sacred silence and songs, its underlying aim is for those gathered to enter together into the mystery of God’s presence. The songs are short, containing words from the Psalms or other Scripture. Sung communally and repetitively, they become a unifying prayer and engender inner stillness.

Taize’ worship began 74 years ago in a small village (Taize’) in the Burgundy region of France. It has spread world-wide by people seeking to promote peace and reconciliation where they live and work. Each year, Taize’ attracts over 100,000 people, many between the ages of 17 and 40.

This peaceful service is in candlelight and lasts 45 minutes. CCNB is at 504 North Barnstead Road. Please come and join us as we enter into the Lenten season. All are welcome!

Family Game Night

On Monday, February 23rd at 6pm the Oscar Foss Memorial Library invites families to come to a Family Game Night at the library. Board games, snacks, and drinks will be provided and families are welcome to bring their favorite games to share as well. Each family who attends will be entered into a free raffle for a new board game. We hope to see you there for a free night of family fun!

Family Movie Night

On Thursday, February 26th the library welcomes families to join us for an evening of family entertainment while we show a PG movie on our big screen. Discover a new Hero and enjoy some popcorn during this free family program. 

Meet the Candidates

Meet the Candidates Night will be held on Thursday, February 26th at 7pm at the Barnstead Town Hall. The Oscar Foss Memorial Library is pleased to sponsor this event again this year. All candidates for Town and School offices have been invited to attend and there are several different positions open this year. Come talk with the candidates, bring your questions, and hear them speak on the issues. Parking is available at the Town Hall and also at the Library. There is no snow date scheduled for this event.

Stephen David Lank

Stephen David Lank, 71, of Barnstead, NH, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2015 and he was a star. He was a star to many people, not just family or friends. He loved people, whoever they were, wherever they came from or whatever they believed in. He was the guy who started conversations, knew who needed help and how he could help, and then just did it. He liked to work hard and get things done, but he also knew how to have a good time, make the best of things and to let everyone feel like they were included. So many times in his travels, whether it was in a far away country or a little restaurant in the back of a general store, he could always find someone to swap stories with. He was well read on many subjects and enjoyed a lively discussion about almost anything.

He was born on June 2, 1943 in Wolfeboro, NH, to the late Clinton Lloyd and Ruth Butman Lank and he was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife, Margie; sons Stephen and wife Kimberly, Aaron and wife Linda, Joshua and girlfriend Valerie Hulse; sisters Rowena Boyd, Ruth Riel, Eleanor Boyd, and Dorothy Philbrick; and his beloved grandsons Aiden and Collin Lank. In addition to his parents, brothers Howard Lank, Clinton Lank, and Richard Lank preceded him in death. 

He had a special place in his heart for his family – of all the rewards in life, he cherished most the time with his family. His mother, his brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles, and cousins, his nieces, nephews and grandchildren – on both sides of his family – he loved to spend time with them. He loved to dance and sing, tell stories and hear about what was happening in everyone’s life. 

He would not have you to cry in his absence, he would rather you told some stories about how he made you laugh.

He was also a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Earl B Clark Post 42. He was owner of S.D. Lank and Sons Plumbing & Heating and retired after 30 years of doing the hands on work he so enjoyed. He was a Mason, Corinthian Lodge #92 F&AM and a member of the Bektash Shriners of NH, serving for a few years as leader of the Bektash Drum Corps. He was a member of First Congregational Church in Pittsfield, NH and a founding member of the Scurvy Prevention League. He was an ardent follower of all the New England sports teams, loved to hunt and fish, and particularly loved to travel the world with his wife and many friends.

A memorial service will be held in May.
