Ecumenical Friendship Night, May 14, 2015
Are you
curious about the beliefs and practices of Quakers? Have you read about
their courageous stands on social justice, pacifism; their work on the
Underground Railroad a hundred years ago or the motivation for
Conscientious Objection during wartime? On May 14th at 6:30, The
Women’s Fellowship of the Congregational Church of North Barnstead
(CCNBWF) will host another of our Friendship Nights to promote
Interfaith understanding and respect. This year we are presenting a
program on Quakers.
Ruth Heath,
a member of the Concord Friends Quaker Meeting, will introduce us to
Quaker Testimonies (what they believe and how they live out their
beliefs), their worship and other spiritual practices and the importance
of prayer and silence. Song, silent meditation, questions and answers
and refreshments will be part of the evening. Ms Heath has
been a Quaker for 35 years and has served in several leadership roles.
Everyone is
welcome to this inspiring and educational event! It will be held at the
Congregational Church of North Barnstead (CCNB), at 504 North Barnstead
Road (near the junction of Peacham and North Barnstead Roads) Center
Barnstead. Refreshments will be served.
CCNBWF
supports the efforts of End 68 Hours of Hunger. At this community
event, we encourage attendees to bring along a donation of
non-perishable food items that will be incorporated into backpacks send
home with Alton children on weekends and over vacation periods.
Suggested items include: soup, pasta, fruit cups, peanut butter,
granola bars, tuna, crackers or cereal. We look forward to welcoming
you!

Local High
School Student To Attend 71st Session Of Granite Girls State
Mariah
Marston, who attends Prospect Mountain High School, has been selected by
the Earl B. Clark American Legion Auxiliary, Unit #42, of Barnstead to
attend the 71st session of Granite Girls State.
Mariah will
meet approximately 100 other students from communities throughout New
Hampshire also selected to attend Granite Girls State, which is being
held at St. Anselm’s College in Manchester the week of June 28 – July 3,
2015.
The program
is based on New Hampshire state government at town, city, county, and
state levels. It emphasizes the impact of government in today’s world.
Each girl has a chance to learn that government is just what she makes
it. She learns the duties, privileges, rights and responsibililities of
American citizenship. During the week, girls are afforded the
opportunity to run for various offices and by the end of the week, elect
one citizen to serve as Governor. Two citizens will be chosen to attend
Girls Nation in Washington, DC and represent New Hampshire as our
Senators. Nationally, the Girls State program is celebrating 77 years in
2015.
Unlike many
other costly summer enrichment programs, Granite Girls State offers an
affordable educational program. The only cost associated to the
potential candidate is a non-refundable $50.00 application fee. The
young ladies selected to participate in the program are granted full
scholarship from the American Legion Auxiliary Unit. This program is
recommended by the National Association of Secondary School Principals
(NASSP).
