Police Chief Paul A. Poirier is a firm supporter of after-school
initiatives that are focused on helping the youth in the community to
stay engaged and have fun. As the recently appointed head of the police
department, Chief Poirier was made aware of the need to assist the
Barnstead Elementary School with funds for the after school program,
which is enjoyed by many of the students. His idea? Make it happen as
part of his community policing strategies.
Together
with members of the Barnstead Police Department, more than $500.00 was
raised to donate to the school program. These funds were accumulated
through events such as the Barnstead Old Home Day, where police
personnel ran a hot-dog stand. This was supplemented by actual cash
donations from police officers who work in the town.
Chief
Poirier and Sergeant Doug Trottier met with Barnstead Elementary School
Principal Tim Rice and presented a check to be used by the school. “This
is a small contribution to the school children from the police
department”, Chief Poirier said. His plan is for additional community
policing initiatives in the future.
