On Saturday, December 19th at 7 p.m., the First Congregational Church in
Pittsfield will be presenting “The Story of Christmas” through word, song
and the handbell choir. The foretelling of the coming of the Messiah and the
celebration of the Birth of Jesus, will be told in nine Bible readings,
interspersed with carols and hymns.
The public is cordially invited to attend. There is no admission charge,
but all are encouraged to bring a canned good or non-perishable item for the
local food pantry. For more information, please call the church office at
435-7471.
Happy Birthday to Ed Millette on December 8 and Zachary Harris
on December 14.
The Chichester Youth Association will be hosting charitable
gaming nights at the Belmont Lodge on December 9, 11, 12, 13, and
16. This is a fund raiser to benefit the youth of Chichester, and
they would appreciate your support if you enjoy this type of
recreation.
Chichester Grange will meet on December 16 at 7 p.m. upstairs in
the Grange/Town Hall. This will be the Christmas program, and
Shirley Waters is in charge of refreshments. In lieu of a gift
exchange, members are asked to bring a five-dollar donation for
Heifer International to add to the money raised this year by
recycling cans. An animal will be chosen and some trees paid for as
well.
Hannah West recently flew to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to attend
the National Grange Annual Convention on November 16 to 20. As well
as sitting in on the convention proceedings and taking part in the
Memorial Service, she visited the Gerald R. Ford Presidential
Museum. Her daughters, Anne and Mary joined her at the end of the
week so that Mary could perform a vocal solo in the Night of
Excellence talent showcase.

Letter
To the people who signed up and did not show up for Thanksgiving Dinner at
Parkers Restaurant.
Do you know that by rudely not showing up for dinner, how much time,
money, effort by a great number of people, not to speak of the food that you
helped waste. It was disappointing to us to see all the effort that was put
into this meal was not appreciated enough by you to even show up.
I want to thank those of you who did show up to eat and those of you who
had meals delivered. Thank you.
Thank you Heidi and George Parker for thinking of others in need. Thank
you all the businesses that donated food and drinks. Thanks to all the folks
who donated their time and energy, gave up their day, made so approximately
160 people could enjoy an excellent Thanksgiving Dinner at no cost, even
have it delivered or you provided transportation by the Pittsfield Taxi at
no cost!
Fewer than 50 people showed up. How disappointing to everyone involved.
Please, for heavens sake if you sign up for a free meal at least show up to
eat it. Most of the leftover food went to good places and not to waste, but
that was not the intent of the event. There was a ton of food and it was all
great.
I am sure that some people who did not show up had a good excuse, but I
think most thoughtlessly just just blew it off and did something else.
Thanks for letting people down who were trying to help you out with a good
time and a great meal. You probably won’t have the same chance next year or
even the next holiday. Why should someone bother for you if you can not be
bothered to show your appreciation by simply showing up!
Thanks again to those who did come and eat, all the people who donated their
day, the people and businesses that donated food and especially the Parker
family.

Chichester Secret Santa 2009
The Chichester Police Department and the Chichester Police Association
are once again sponsoring the Chichester Secret Santa. The program is funded
totally by the generosity of all who want to spread a little joy to those
less fortunate. If you know anyone in the Town of Chichester who needs extra
assistance from Santa with warm clothing, hats, mittens, boots, and of
course some other extra goodies for children, please call the Chichester
Police Department at 798-4911. Applications will be accepted through
December 19, 2009.
Chichester Grange
Chichester Grange met at the Grange/Town Hall on Wednesday, December 2nd
with Master Anne Boisvert presiding. The Secretary’s minutes contained a
detailed record of the varied items shared at the Show And Tell program on
November 18. They ranged from a battery operated turkey who did the Turkey
Trot to interesting bits of bones and shells found while digging out a crawl
space at the Boisvert home.
Wildlife sightings included blue jays, Canada geese, deer, and an
opossum. Thank-you notes were read from Epsom third graders for the
dictionaries they received in November. Dictionaries were distributed in
Pittsfield just before Thanksgiving, so three towns now have their
dictionaries for this school year. Thanks to the Ladies Benevolent
Society who sponsors Chichester, Eames Insurance and Real Estate who
sponsors Epsom, and the Northway Bank who sponsors Pittsfield. Their
financial support is greatly appreciated.
Hannah West gave a report of the activities at the National Grange
Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan on November 16-21. Several other
Grangers from New Hampshire were in attendance, including Mary West who
performed at the Night of Excellence, a showcase for state talent contest
winners.
Following the business meeting, members made short work of planning the
program for 2010. A few suppers were scheduled in the hopes of providing
social occasions for prospective members to become acquainted with
Chichester Grangers.
The evening closed with refreshments provided by Hannah West.
The next meeting will be December 16th. It will be a Christmas program
with refreshments provided by Shirley Waters. Members are asked to bring a
five dollar donation for Heifer International.
