More special activities are coming right up at the Pittsfield area Senior Center.  On Tuesday, November 16th at 10 am, the Pittsfield Fire Department will be on hand to give us safety tips and to teach us about staying safe.  They will also be explaining the automatic electronic defibrillator the center has in its function room in case of emergency.

On Wednesday, November 17th, at 10 am the activity for the day will be making turkey decorations using cookies, frosting and  candy.  Please bring a 50¢ donation to help pay for supplies.

The local artists featured this month at the Chichester Town Library are the children from Chichester who attended the Currier Museum’s Art from Art Outreach.  Kristi Nyhan taught a four week after school program entitled Art From Nature:  Fall in New England.  Our library is beautifully decorated with clay pumpkins, landscape paintings, beautiful felted wool sculptures and printed foliage.

We are having an artists reception on November 19th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.  If you can’t make the reception, be sure to drop in and see the show.

Our book discussion group will meet on Thursday November 18th at 7:00 pm.  We are discussing Eaarth by Bill McKibben.  All are welcome.

Our new winter hours are:  Mon. & Wed.  2:30 - 8:30, Tues. & Thurs. 9:30 - 2:00, Sat. 9:00 - 1:00.

The Chichester Cub Scouts are collecting non-perishable food items in our annual Scouting for Food event again this year. Hopefully you received a flyer and plastic bag for your food donations on Saturday, November 6th. Food donations should be out at your mailboxes by 9am on Saturday, November 13th. The Cub Scouts will be collecting canned or boxed food donations starting at 9:30 am. Townspeople may also drop off donations at Chichester Town Hall between 9:30 and 11 am on the 13th. Thanks for your generosity -- We hope to fill many holiday food baskets through this event!

Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, November 17th, at 7 p.m. upstairs in the Grange Hall. The program is “Show and Tell.” Please bring an item that you think will interest, entertain, or amuse those present and be prepared to tell about it.

The Chichester Town Pantry would like to thank all those who contributed to the annual Chichester Massage food drive.  Special thanks go out to Amy and Cheryl.

Happy Birthday on November 11th to Felicia Gelinas and Brooke Davison. Not everyone has a school holiday on her birthday!

The Holiday Food Basket application forms are available at the Town Office to be completed no later than 4 pm on November 22, 2010.  Also, as in the past, there are a few days open to volunteer to assemble, pack and deliver boxes of food at the NH National Guard Armory on Pembroke Road in Concord but you must sign up in advance by completing a volunteer application form. If there are any questions feel free to leave a message at the office for Donna Chagnon.

Congratulations and thanks to the Old Home Day Committee for their successful “Trunk or Treat” event on October 30th at Carpenter Park. There were twenty-three trunks and many positive comments, so quite likely an annual event has been born.

Letter to the Editor

I’ve faithfully been reading the Sun for a few months now, searching for a support group.  I’ve even  looked in Concord and nearby towns.  But there doesn’t seem to be one support group for victims of domestic violence.  If you’re in an abuse shelter, you get support, counseling there.  But, for myself a survivor of 32 years of abuse, I feel alone.  I know there are others, like me, who just need some support , sharing “tools” of knowledge, even someone to just listen.  If you’re interested in forming a group, be it 2 or even 10, please email me at [email protected]

A most grateful thank you.
P.J.

Letter

To my neighbors in Chichester:
I want to congratulate our three new State Representatives:  Brandon Guida, John McDonnell and Brian Seaworth.  I wish you the very best.  You have an arduous challenge in front of you.  We heard from the voters that they clearly want our elected officials to work together for our common good.  As a constituent, I ask that you seek out members of the minority party and work together to make the best decisions possible for all of us.

Second,  I want to say thank you; thank you to everyone who came out and voted last Tuesday.  I am so proud of our high voter turnout in Chichester and thanks to everyone who run such a friendly and efficient voting environment! Thank you to the team of amazing neighbors, who distributed literature, stood at the polls and wrote letters on my behalf. Thank you to the wonderful constituents who have contacted me over the past four years with  issues and concerns and for your participation in the process.  Thanks to Doug and Irene who have always been my support and my anchor in this roller coaster ride of politics and life!

I will soon be a constituent once again and because of all of your inspiration, I will be a better citizen and will monitor my State Representatives and let them know my concerns and requests on certain key issues.

The next two years are going to be challenging ones.   I offer my best wishes and my prayers to the three who will be faced with many tough and important votes that affect each of us.

Thank you everyone for allowing me to serve you the past four years.  It has been an honor and a blessing.

Your neighbor,
Sally Kelly

Chichester Grange News

Chichester Grange met at the Grange Hall on Wednesday, November 3rd. The evening began with a pancake and sausage supper at 6 p.m. Members heartily enjoyed pancakes with NH maple syrup, sausage links, fruit, orange juice, milk, and coffee.

During the business meeting Anne Boisvert gave a report on the NH State Grange Annual Convention held in Keene on October 28th to 31st.

James Tetreault of Arlington Grange in Winchester, was elected to a two-year term as Master/President of the NH State Grange. Hannah West of Chichester Grange was elected State Lecturer/Program Director.

The “Kiss the Pig” Fund raiser finale was postponed because the pig was unable to attend. The donation period will be extended until early April, when pigs of an appropriate size will be in better supply. Mary West won third place in the Photo Scavenger Hunt.

Wildlife sightings included a coyote, a gray fox, wild turkeys, cardinals, and other birds. Packets from the various state committees have been received and will be incorporated into Chichester Grange’s planning meeting on December 1.

The program for the evening centered around recognition of Master Anne Boisvert’s wedding anniversary. Anne and Marty were married on November 3, 2007. There was a reading of facts about roses. Kevin Belval sang “Get Me to the Church on Time,” and members reminisced about memorable weddings they had attended.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, November 17th. The program will be Show and Tell, and refreshments will be provided
