Chichester Heritage Commission

The Heritage Commission meets every third Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Chichester Town Library. Chichester residents are always welcome to attend meetings. Membership consists of seven members and three alternates. The Commission currently needs one more member.

The Commission has recently submitted an inventory application to the New Hampshire Division of Historical Resources for the Grange Hall to be included in the State Register of Historic Places. We hope to have word soon about our efforts to nominate this historic building.

The Commission is looking for Chichester woodpiles! This is a photo event that could win you a cord of split wood delivered to your yard. Send or give your printed photo to any Heritage Commission member (please include your name and contact information on the back of the photo). The photos will be posted anonymously on a board in our booth at Old Home Day, August 21st, and judged that day. Too busy to take a photo? Call Lucille at 798-5709 and we’ll take the photo for you. Flyers will be available at the Library and Town Offices with all the information. You will also find the details on the town’s website under Heritage Commission.

The Cub Scouts of Pack 85, Chichester,  celebrated the end of the year with our bridging ceremony. We had six Tiger Cubs complete all the requirements to become Wolf Cubs; three Wolf Cubs crossed over to Bears, and our four Webelos will continue on to Webelos 2. We are proud of the boys’ hard work and accomplishments.

If you are thinking about joining Cub Scouts and live in the Chichester area, now is the time to join in the fun and adventure as we begin our new year! Please contact Karen McCormack, at [email protected] for all the information you need. We have exciting outings and Old Home Day fun planned for the summer months. We are looking for new Tigers going into 1st grade and boys of all ages who would like to join in the learning and fun of Cub Scouting. We welcome you to join our pack!

James Oliver Mobbs
Known to everyone as Bumpy

James Oliver Mobbs born on Horse Corner Road in Chichester on October 1, 1917 and died on Horse Corner Road on June 30, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. His parents were Lemuel H. Mobbs and Ruth (Griffin) Mobbs.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy Seabees in 1943. This construction battalion was the Navy’s first Seabee Unit. He was very proud to be a part of this battalion.

Jim’s family was the love of his life. Every Sunday for lunch there is between 16 and 22 people at his and Tina’s home. Family and friends are always welcome and this will continue. We celebrate his wonderful life!
