The Chichester United Methodist Church’s summer hours will start
June 17th. There will be no Sunday School until September, and the
Sunday Service will begin at 9:00. Come and join the fellowship on
Sunday.
The May 30 Memorial Day Observance went well in spite of the
showers. There were about forty people in attendance including six
Cub Scouts and their families. Being inside made it easier to hear
with traffic going by, and the rain let up enough so that everyone
could go outside at the end of the program to see the Cub Scouts
place the wreath. Many thanks to all who participated.
Please remember to plant an extra row in your garden to provide the
Chichester Food Pantry with fresh produce this summer.
Save the afternoon of June 23 for Chichester Grange’s second Penny
Sale. This one will include "Make your own Sundaes" to provide fun
for you and additional money for the Heritage Commission’s Windows
Project. Place: Grange/Town Hall. Time: 2-4 pm for placing your
tickets and making your sundae. Tickets will be drawn beginning at 4
pm.
The Chichester Historical Society would like to thank everyone who
donated items for or who participated in their recent Yard Sale. The
sale was very successful, raising over six hundred dollars for the
Acquisitions Fund. The money will be used for the purchase of
Chichester items to be added to the museum collection.
Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, June 20, at 7 pm upstairs
in the Grange Hall.

I learned a new word yesterday. There was an article in the paper
about yard sales and one of the words used to describe things for
sale was "tchotchkes." Now I know what a lady means when she comes
in and says "what kind of new "totskis" do you have? Now I know she
means little collectibles! We have lots of those!
The yard sale people did come through as we have many new items
donated by people who just did not want to bring the unsold back
into their house. Thank you so much for lots of nice things to
recycle and reuse.
Father’s Day is June 17th. It’s not how much you spend on a gift,
but the fact that you remembered. We have nice golf shirts, regular
tees, coffee and beer mugs, and a few items that will make him know
you remembered.
We are in the yellow (still don’t get that one) Blueberry Plaza, on
Route 28 in Chichester. We are open Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4,
Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4. You can call us at 247-7191.
Chichester Grange News
Chichester Grange met on June 6th upstairs in the Grange Hall. It
was exciting to see the refitted windows on the west side of the
room and in the kitchen. The sash weights have been reattached and
the windows actually open easily and stay up without the use of
window sticks.
Alice Hilliard reported on a successful Memorial Day Observance with
about 40 in attendance. Being inside because of the rain may have
taught us something about cutting down on traffic noise, providing
seating with minimum effort, and avoiding insect bites.
Plans were made to hold a second Penny Sale on June 23. This one
will be in the afternoon and include "Make Your Own Sundaes" to
provide additional revenue. Frekey’s Dairy Freeze has offered to
donate two tubs of ice cream and Grangers will bring in their
favorite toppings. The Historical Society has donated a box of
appealing objects that did not sell in their yard sale to add to the
penny sale tables.
Wildlife sightings included goldfinches, cardinals, a fox, wood
chucks, wild turkeys, a deer, a hawk, and turtles. Plans were made
for watering the flower tubs at Memorial Park from June through
September.
Kevin Belval presented an interesting program based on a 1969
newspaper found in the wall of a room in his home. From clippings he
brought in and some research he had done, members were able to
compare "then" and "now."
At the next meeting, June 20th, members will finally make the annual
donation to Heifer International and choose a site for the July Eat
Out. Future activities include fair exhibits and a float for the Old
Home Day Parade.
Refreshments after the meeting were provided by Ruth Hammen. Members
enjoyed brownie sundaes with great delight.
Best of luck to Elizabeth Stock and her new mount, Whiteout, in the
upcoming show season. Elizabeth Stock is the daughter of Martha and
Stephen Stock of Chichester. Elizabeth will be riding her new horse
Whiteout, a registered Morgan, in the walk/trot division at various
shows throughout New Hampshire and Massachusetts. They will both
continue their training and showing under the direction of Joanne
Galvin of Deer Run Farm in Pittsfield, New Hampshire.
