The Town of Chichester Food Pantry would like to thank all who
contributed food during the month of February.
Please plan to attend the School District Meeting on Saturday, March
9, at 9 a.m. Listen to Principal Pamela Stiles give her “State of
the School” message. Find out how your school district dollars are
being distributed. Do some networking. Pick up a Town Report if you
don’t already have one. Come early enough to check in with the
Supervisors of the Checklist, because you can’t vote without a card
to hold up. Bring a little money in case someone you wish to support
is selling something.
Remember that Voting Day for town officials is Tuesday, March 12.
The polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Congratulations to Claudia R. Camerino, a senior at Colby College in
Waterville, Maine, whom was named to the Dean’s List for her
outstanding academic achievement during the fall semester of the
2012-13 year. Camerino is the daughter of Steven Camerino of Loudon,
N.H. and Marsha Rich of Chichester, N.H., and attended Derryfield
School.

Dear Editor:
Every two years a new budget is developed for the State of NH. As we
have done in years past, we are going around the State conducting
public hearings to get input from NH residents of what they want to
see (and not see!) in the budget.
Our Finance Committee will be hosting a public hearing for this
purpose, tomorrow night, Thursday, March 7th from 4:00-7:00 in
Concord at the State House at Representative Hall on the 2nd floor.

Open House Held

An Open House for the new Community Meeting Room was held February
22, 2013. Approximately 50 people attended. A heartfelt thank you
went out to all the volunteers who had worked to create and complete
the room. Over 30 volunteers were acknowledged. A craft project for
the children was given by Barbara Pappas. Everyone agreed the tax
dollars had been well spent.
The Meeting Room still needs an ADA bathroom and small kitchenette.
There is a warrant article being presented at Town Meeting, March
16th asking for $10,000 to fund the bathroom and kitchenette. We
ask for your support again this year. The only increase in our
proposed budget is for Downloadable Books (e-books and audio books.)
See our librarian, Lisa, to find out how this free service to you
works.
Monthly book sales will begin in April and continue through October.
You can also visit the book store any time the library is open and
if no one is using the Meeting Room. Adult books are now 50˘ and
children’s books are 25˘, unless marked otherwise.
Library Trustees will be at the Town Meeting to answer any questions
about the Budget and Warrant article. At the Town Official Election
on Tuesday, March 12th, please write-in Carolee Davison for Library
Trustee.

Dear Editor:
At Chichester’s town meeting on Saturday, March 16, the voters will
be asked to make a big decision about town roads. Chichester has
38.1 miles of town maintained roads, 24.1 miles of which are paved.
In recent decades, paved roads have been deteriorating and the town
has not invested enough to maintain this network.
In 2005, town voters required the Selectmen to appoint a Road
Advisory Committee (RAC) to recommend a long and short term road
plan. The RAC has been working diligently and has completed its 2012
plan. A summary is available in the annual town report and the full
plan is on the town website.
The average life span of a paved road is 20 years even with regular
maintenance. After that it is time to rebuild the road, especially a
road that never had appropriate subsurface work done. To keep to a
responsible 20 year schedule, Chichester should annually reconstruct
about 1.2 miles at a cost of about $375,000 in current dollars. The
RAC has created a plan to do just that. The town has been spending
only about $100,000 per year, meaning that work has been on a 75
year schedule to get to all the roads.
The Board of Selectmen and Budget Committee understand the problem.
They have included a new “road reconstruction” line item of $186,500
in their proposed budget for 2013. This is the first time this has
been done and is a great improvement over recent years. But is only
half of what is needed for a 20 year schedule. If approved, it will
be the beginning of a 40 year schedule.
Voters will have to decide how much they value the town’s paved
roads and what rebuilding schedule is appropriate.

are on hand.
It’s not too early to think about the prom. We have a gorgeous pale

To Chichester Voters:
I am a candidate for Supervisor of the Checklist. I would
appreciate your vote on March 12th.
I have lived in town for more than 40 years. I am dedicated to the
town, which is evident in my past commitments.
I attend the Selectmen meetings regularly, was a Trustee of the
Trust Fund for more than 5 years, was an assistant to the Town
Moderator for 2 years, am committed to the Old Home Day Committee
and currently I have been the Coordinator of the Town Pantry for
going on 7 years. I will continue to be involved in the town with
your support.
