If you are submitting a financial or statistical report for the 2013
Chichester Town Report, the deadline is January 23.
Looking for something to do in Chichester? Chichester Grange will be
sponsoring an “Organization Fair” on February 7 at 7 p.m. in the
Town/Grange Hall. Come and hear representatives of the various
clubs, organizations, etc. that meet right here in Chichester. Pick
up some literature and see if there is a group you would like to
join. No pressure, just information. February 21 is the snow date or
overflow date for this event.
The Town Government season is upon us. The Town Report is being
assembled. Soon it will be time to elect Town and School District
officials and committee members. Check at the Town Offices for when
and how to register, so that your name will be on the ballot when
elections roll around in early March. Wouldn’t it be great to have
some choice this year or to know that there is a group of citizens
who are willing to step up to help Chichester run smoothly?
The Bee Hole Beavers Snowmobile Club’s next meeting is Wednesday,
January 15 at 7pm. The meetings are held downstairs at the
Chichester Public Library. Club memberships are available at the
meeting. Please come for the latest news on the trail system and
upcoming event planning.
Due to the rain and warm temps, the upcoming Club trail ride and
bonfire event has been postponed until February 8. The general
trail conditions just aren’t good enough for a large event.
Hopefully we will have better snow & trails by February.
Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Here are a few of the “Charitable Giving” doings from 2013-we
couldn’t do these things without your donations: Helped cloth 5
homeless boys; a formerly homeless person was starting out with an
apt., furnished the kitchen w/ pots, pans, utensils and glasses;
last Feb. we donated 10 winter coats, hats and mittens to the
homeless shelter in Concord; there is an organization that
provides clothing for homeless who are seeking employment. For job
interviews, we supplied 10 pairs of men’s dress pants, shirts and
ties; a fire victim received a jacket, 3 kids’ games, 6 girls
clothing, 2 jeans, shoes, men’s clothing, dvds and 2 kids’ books.
I’ll tell you more soon. If you want to see the list, visit the
Attic. Baby Threads made a nice donation to the Chichester Santa
fund. Their wonderful thank you note is on our board. Rte 28
towards Pittsfield; Mon. 8-12; Tues. & Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 & Sat.
10-4. Remember to bring in your “ugly” sweater & enter our contest!
Letter
Chichester Voters:
Chichester needs a new Town Moderator. I say this as the current
Town Moderator. When I ran for the position again in 2012, I made it
clear that this would be my last term in this office.
The filing period for town elected offices, including Town
Moderator, is January 22 through January 31. Sign up at the Town
Clerk’s office. I am hoping that a number of Chichester residents
will be interested enough to file and run. Here are what I see as
the qualifications needed: experience running meetings, a reasonable
sense of humor, ability to stifle one’s own views in order to be
fair to all sides in any debate, and commitment to making democracy
work.
The job entails managing the Chichester polls on elections days (of
which there are from 1 to 4 depending on the year), supervising the
counting of the cast ballots, and running the annual Town Meeting in
March.
I would be happy to answer questions from anyone who might consider
running for the position (798-5028). And I am willing to provide
advice and counsel to the next elected moderator if requested.
I was recruited into the position by Earl Weir in 1997 after he had
filled in for Jack Sargent when Jack moved away. Jack had served 13
years. Before that, Jim Warren served for 17 years, Leon Sanborn for
22 years, and John Shaw for 22 years.
The term is only 2 years. So you are not committing more than that.
It seems, however, that if you don’t get everyone all riled up,
townspeople might re-elect you until you decide, like me, that it is
time for someone else to take over.

Chichester Town Moderator
Chichester Town Library News
The January raffle item, “Fireside Comfort,” looks mighty wonderful
during these cold spells we’ve been experiencing. It includes a
brass firewood holder, a package of microwave popcorn, homemade
cocoa and chocolate dipped stirring spoons, mugs and a dvd or cd.
Don’t forget to stop by the Library to purchase your ticket(s).
Anytime during this month through February, you can see the exhibit
by the Photography Club entitled “January Blooms,” something that
should lift your spirits in the dark of winter. Come by on
Saturday, January 18th at or after 9:30 a.m. to meet the
participants and exhibitors at a reception.
The mid-winter Book Sale is scheduled on January 18th also, from 8
a.m. to 1 p.m. There’s always a great selection to choose from,
whether your interests are historical, novels, cooking and/or
crafting and more! The Library is the place to come for “Good
Reads, Cheap!”
The Library will be closed on Monday, January 20th, in observance of
Martin Luther King Day, This means there will be no Story Hours and
Crafts for the kindergartners and preschoolers; however, the Lovers
of the Chichester Library will still be meeting at 7 p.m.
An activity the Library has undertaken for the past
few years is acknowledging and thanking our military personnel
deployed overseas and our local veterans for their service. One of
the ways in which this is done is by making valentines for them. If
you know of military personnel currently deployed or of a veteran(s)
who would enjoy receiving a valentine, please provide their names
and addresses to the Library at
[email protected] or by messaging the
Library on Face Book or by mail/phone call. There will be a family
activity to make those valentines during the morning of Saturday,
January 25th; so, please reserve that time for this special event.
The Craft Club is meeting again, now that the holidays are over.
This group is for adults and teenagers. Bring a project on
Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:30 p.m.
The Garden Club is also meeting on January 22nd at 7 p.m.
Up-to-date information and/or reminders often appear on the Library
Face Book page. Please “like” us on Face Book and encourage your
friends to do so, too.
Chichester Grange
Chichester Grange met on January 8 at the Grange Hall. The evening
began with a soup supper at 6 p.m. Members enjoyed chicken noodle
and cheddar broccoli soup with crackers, homemade bread and rolls,
and dessert. During the program section of the meeting they learned
that January is “soup month.” Certainly, the hot soup went well on a
cold evening.
During the business meeting, called to order by Master Kevin Belval,
members made plans for hosting a State Grange membership workshop on
January 18 and a Chichester “Organization Fair” in February. The
wildlife report showed that wild turkeys and deer are present in the
area in large numbers and winter birds are at the bird feeders along
with the occasional squirrel.
Many thank-you notes were received from long term members who
received a box of home-made cookies from Chichester Grange at
Christmas time. Lecturer Alice Hilliard based her program on facts
about the month of January. It is amazing how many events around the
world have their anniversaries on January first.
Chichester Grange meets only once during the month of January. The
next meeting will be on February 5th.
Three-State Reciprocal Snowmobile Weekend
Snowmobile enthusiasts will have a chance to explore some new
territory the weekend of January 31 through February 2, during the
NH-VT-ME Reciprocal Snowmobile Weekend.
All snowmobiles legally registered to ride in VT and ME will be able
to operate on NH trails during this three day open weekend.
All snowmobiles legally registered in NH will be able to operate in
VT and ME during this three day open weekend.
Remember all snowmobile laws in the three state must be complied
with.
Over the last two seasons this reciprocal opportunity has proven to
be one of the busiest snowmobile weekends of the entire season.
Visit the Chichester Town Clerk’s Office to obtain your snowmobile
registration and have fun on the trails.
