Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
Submitted By Carol Hendee
Special request for a special little girl; we need Little Pet Shop
figures, her Grandmother is trying to collect them for her, as that
is what she loves. If you have one or several, just drop them off
with a note, “Not for Sale - but for sharing.”
Thank you to everyone who brought their yard sale items to the Attic
instead of the dump! I know it was hot and needed a lot of effort,
and it is truly appreciated that the items will be repurposed and
have a nice new home!

Don’t forget the June raffle, which includes antique toy cars and
tow truck, a book of “blueprints” of fun things to make and a gift
certificate to the Longhorn Steakhouse. Also, the summer
raffles of two bicycles, each worth over $200.00, is ongoing. One
designed for women and the other for men, these bikes are great for
riding on either streets or bike paths.
The Library has greatly reduced price admission
tickets to Canterbury Shaker Village. The $6/adult and $3/child fee
is a bargain to see how our Shaker neighbors lived and contributed
to society. Go to
http://www.shakers.org/ for further
information on visiting hours, special programs, etc.
Other generous offerings for families to have a great summer
experiencing various aspects of New Hampshire life are tickets for
free admission to the exhibit galleries at the McAuliffe-Shepard
Discovery Center (attending the planetarium shows will be at an
additional cost) and to the NH Historical Society Museum in Concord.
Nancy Fraher Files For State Senate Candidacy
Life Long Educator And Public Education Advocate Set To Run For
District 17 Seat
Nancy Fraher has officially filed as a candidate for State Senate in
District 17. Joined by fellow incumbents and candidates, Nancy filed
for her candidacy with the Secretary of State so that New Hampshire
can continue to move forward. District 17 includes the towns of
Raymond, Nottingham, Deerfield, Northwood, Strafford, Allenstown,
Epsom, Pembroke, Pittsfield, Chichester, and Loudon.
“My experiences as a life-long citizen of this district and
professional educator, in addition to my belief that the people of
New Hampshire ought to be represented by a respectful and
responsible political body, have inspired my decision to run for
State Senate,” said Fraher. “I will bring a unique perspective to
the Senate that will allow me to be a strong voice for the fair
funding of public schools to Concord, to fight for collective
bargaining rights for Granite State workers and defend the medical
rights of women from the radical Republican agenda.
“The people of District 17 have grown weary of the radical agenda
put forth by their incumbent Senator,” continued Fraher. “Granite
States expect their elected officials to approach legislation with
independence and commons sense. I intended to be exactly that brand
of Senator.”
“Backyard Farming” Lecture Set For June
The Chichester Garden Club (CGC) and Chichester Agricultural
Commission (AgCom) will present its last “Backyard Farming” lecture
for the season on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, 7pm, at Grange Hall, 54
Main Street, Chichester, NH.
Master Gardener Ann Lacroix will talk about “Organic Basic
Gardening.” The talk will cover the components and importance of
pH, organic matter, cover crops, fertilizer, soil types and
amendments to build and keep a good healthy soil base. Lacroix will
also incorporate IPM or organic integrated pest management practices
such as crop rotation with the nine plant families, companion plants
to diversify the garden, monitoring programs, and biological
controls you can use to keep pests and fungus in check.
Master Gardener Ann Lacroix grew up surrounded by cow fields in the
1950’s in Connecticut, living on a dead end road boarding hundreds
of acres of woods. She grew up playing and enjoying the woods.
Ann’s parents were outdoor enthusiasts, always heading into the
wilds to canoe, camp and fish. The family had Springer spaniels
used for hunting pheasant, woodcock and duck. It was a wild time
then; people today have a hard time finding remote places to enjoy
nature and feel comfortable in the woods. Lacroix states, “I
brought my students every opportunity I could to teach them
appreciation for nature. So it was natural to embrace organic
gardening methods from my background.”
Both the Chichester Garden Club and AgCom promote
gardening and farming through education and partnered to create this
Backyard Farming lecture series. To join the Garden Club, please
contact
[email protected] or Ann Davis
603-903-3891; meetings are held at 7pm, Town Library, the fourth
Wednesday of the month. The AgCom meets the third Wednesday of the
month, 7pm, Town Library; all are welcome.
Letter
Thank You
Dear Voters of Chichester,
After having the honor of serving each of you in NH House of
Representatives for six years, I will not be running this Fall due
to work commitments.
People ask what I am most proud of and at the top of the list, is
this past two years when I really saw us come together, Democrats
and Republicans to do what is right for the people of NH. We passed
our budget with a true bipartisan vote in both the House and the
Senate. This was unprecedented! No one can remember a year that it
was not passed strictly along party lines - not THIS biennium, when
it was nearly unanimous in both chambers, Republicans and Democrats
working together! I also appreciated when you let me know how you
felt on a certain issue, either by email, phone, snail mail, Face
Book, a visit or a chance encounter. You thoughts were always in my
head when it came time for me to pull the lever and vote on your
behalf! Thank you.
It is with great pleasure that I announce that Chichester’s Grange’s
Citizen of the Year, Richard DeBold will be running for my seat. He
will be joining Rep. Dianne Schuett and Dave Doherty, a retired
counselor from PA.
John Kennedy said “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget
that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by
them.” That is my current plan. Thank you all!
Sally Kelly
