Happy Birthday to Lauren Lane on November
17.
Thanks to all who helped to make the voting at Chichester on
November 8 a well-organized event. After the before-work crush,
there was no waiting unless several people in the same section of
the alphabet arrived together. We received a high rating from
the Attorney General’s office for a well-run polling place, so pat
yourselves on the back.
There will be a Community Supper at the
Chichester United Methodist Church on Wednesday, November 23, at 6
p.m. You won’t be surprised to learn that a Turkey Dinner is being
served. These suppers are free to all, although donations are
welcomed and used for future suppers.
It’s time again for Socks for Seniors,
sponsored by Chichester Grange. The idea is to collect pairs of
colorful adult-sized socks which will be given to residents of area
nursing homes at Christmas time. While you are out shopping, look
for brightly colored or patterned socks. Buy a pair or two and put
them in the boxes provided at Chichester Library, Pittsfield
Library, or The Attic thrift shop. Let’s see if we can beat last
year’s count of 150 pairs!
Preparations are well underway for the
Town of Chichester and the Capital Region Food Program 2016
Christmas Holiday food Basket project. Applications for the
Christmas food baskets are available at town hall. Deadline is Dec

The Chichester Library has joined the literacy initiative of NH 1000
Books Before Kindergarten. This initiative encourages
families to read to their young children and to use the resources of
their public libraries. This is a wonderful way to introduce little
ones to reading and then to help encourage them to read on their
own. As our library has one of the finest pre-school programs
on Thursdays at 10:30, the embracing of NH 1000 Books Before
Kindergarten is a natural extension of our efforts. This
commendable program is sponsored by CHILIS (Children’s Librarians of
New Hampshire) and the NH State Library. It is supported by
the Center for the Book at the NH State Library, the Jack and
Dorothy Byrne Foundation, the Academy of Family Physicians, and NH
Family Voices. Please see Librarian Lisa Prizio for further
information.
Letter
Dear Chichester Voters,
I would like to thank you for the
opportunity to be a candidate for your State Representative in this
spirited election season.
There is a theme in our culture that if
someone does not like something, they should try to do something
about it. As I’ve shared, I have been frustrated about barriers to
school choice in NH and I am working to lower those barriers.
Although I will not be doing so in the Legislature this term, I will
continue to pursue this issue.
It was a privilege to run for office in
our district and I appreciate your support.
Thank you for the opportunity to be your
candidate, Dr. Darren Tapp
Letter To The Editor
The voters of Chichester and Pembroke have
spoken. All three incumbent Representatives to the NH House have
been re-elected. I congratulate the winners: Dave Doherty
(Democrat), Dianne Schuett (Democrat), and Brian Seaworth
(Republican). I didn’t make the cut.
I enjoyed the campaign and I greatly
appreciate the support volunteers gave me in the process. Thank you,
thank you, thank you for helping with mailings, canvassing, holding
signs, and allowing signs on your lawns.
Turnout November 8 was very high.
Candidates and voters both should thank the poll workers who spent
long hours under difficult conditions to make the electoral process
work: the town clerks, moderators, ballot clerks, supervisors of the
checklist, and others.
Many of you who voted for me are certainly
shocked by the ascendance of Donald Trump as our next President. I
know from many past experiences how disappointing it is to find our
candidate on the losing side in Presidential election we felt was
important. We all need to work together as a country. Let’s get on
with that.

Started by Craig Shibles in 1998, Mattress
Maker has not only been the place to buy mattresses locally but has
become a bit of a legend. The above picture is a map inside the
store that depicts where mattresses sold from Mattress Maker were
delivered to. Originally Craig kept the map to have a visual of how
his business was doing. Eventually it became a badge for those
buying mattresses. “Hey, I want my mattress on that map,” customers
would say. Soon with the success of the business the map was
overcrowded and a list to the left was added and also eventually
filled. Between this store and the one in Concord, a lot of
mattresses have been delivered over the years and the map continues
to be a conversation piece. Mattress Maker is also known for
supporting local charities, the Chichester Fire Rescue and holding
coat drives over the years. Daughter, Michelle is now the keeper of
the map having joined the company in 2001 and can relate many tales
of her father’s many deliveries and just as many friends made over
the years. A family run company is a special gift to the customer,
as it is their name attached to every sale and these families try
harder at customer satisfaction. While they may not be able to “put
you on the map,” anymore, they can still deliver great customer
service and mattresses, of course!
The Word’s
Out, The Turkey Got Away
The Chichester Welfare Department will
once again be offering Thanksgiving baskets to those in need. One
phone call is all it takes. Call 798-3278 and let us know how many
in your family, your address, and phone number. We will return your
call and ask a couple of questions and that’s all there is to it. We
will catch the bird and send him along with all the fixin’s to your
residence a couple of days before “Turkey day” so that you can
prepare your goodies.
Elderly citizens of Chichester and
families experiencing a hardship, please call. If you know someone
that needs assistance, but is reluctant to call please do not
hesitate to call us.
Wow, Can You
Believe It Is November?
The Chichester Police Association will
again be sponsoring “SECRET SANTA” for Chichester residents. We have
volunteers all lined up to assist Santa to get the requests, make
the goods, shop if needed, and help him LOAD THAT SLEIGH.
Unfortunately, we all fall on hard times,
for one reason or another and have to ask for a little help. We will
be accepting applications through December 16, 2016. All we ask is
that you be a resident of Chichester, ONLY requesting assistance
from us, fill out an application so that we know the needs and wants
of children, and bring it to the police department by the above
date.
Never before have we had to insist that
you only apply with us, but we don’t want to duplicate other
assistance, which is not cost worthy and quite frankly, unfair to
all.
If you would like assistance or know of a
family that needs assistance, please do not hesitate to let us know.
If you would like to volunteer to shop, wrap, or help Santa in any
way, please call and speak with Donna or Chief Clarke at 798-4911.
Monetary gifts are accepted made out to Secret Santa Fund.
