I am sure we have some of the best donors ever! A lady brought
in about a dozen pairs of heavy winter socks, not for us to sell,
but to give to the homeless. Thank you!
The complete list of 2015 Charitable
Giving is available, just ask at the desk and you can read what we
do and how you can help.
We are hoping for donations to get us
through the winter. Inventory is a little low. We need yard sale
season, but we’ll take “closet cleaning season!”
We have several suitcases. They can be
used for more than travel, think storage of your linens, ornaments,
anything you may want to have in one place (like under the bed). We
can offer forks, knives, and spoons at 2/25¢ all week, Wed. through
Sat. and kitchen utensils 1/2 price.
Valentine merchandise 1/2 price Wed.
through Sat. also.

Do you have a small fry and are at odds with what to do with and/or
for them next? Consider coming to the Library on Thursday
mornings at 10:30 for stories, activities and fun. It is also
a good socialization opportunity, both for parents/caregivers and
the young ones. Pre-schoolers and kindergarteners will be
gathering tomorrow morning at 10:30.
The Classic Movie of the Week will finish its series with
“Casablanca” on Friday at 2 p.m. This 1942 movie with
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman draws us into the intrigue of WW
II, Nazi Germany and resistance fighters, not to mention love.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, this classic movie won three
Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted
Screenplay.
The Teen Advisory Group is scheduled to
meet on Saturday, February 13th, at 9:30 a.m.
Although the Library will be closed
Monday, February 15th for President’s Day, the Lovers of the
Chichester Library are scheduled to meet at 7 p.m.
Letter To The Editor
“Sailing On... and Still not so Smoothly I
am a straight-shooter, often calling things exactly how they are
(good or bad).
* Sadly, the old saying rings
true, “the squeaky wheel gets the grease” -- why must we force this?
* Sadly, I am convinced the
BOS misdirected me (and residents) purposely.
* Sadly, the BOS minutes are
not always a true reflection of key points/conversations.
Here’s the detail:
I moved to Chichester on September 1st, 2015. Quickly, I
started to figure out that Hutchinson Road had more traffic than I
thought any gravel road should/would. The road condition was
not good, but I understand that there is a budget and a maintenance
plan and things will progress over time. So I attended my
first BOS meeting (10/13/15) as I was curious to ask about the
“process” involved with getting Hutchinson noticed and a plan to get
the road improved.
I was told by the BOS, paraphrasing here - Best thing to do is to
get this as a warrant article and a petition warrant article is even
better. And, we (BOS) decide to support it that would show more
merit to the voters. NOBODY mentioned that I should bring this
issue to the Road Advisory Committee (RAC). In fact, with
witnesses and minutes to prove, I was told, “The RAC is not charged
with creating new paved roads as per their Charter.” I
encourage you to review the BOS 4/28/15 and 10/13/15 minutes
specifically.

I will make you a public promise. I am now the squeaky wheel
you’ve forced me to be. I will no longer take BOS advice as I
think it is tainted and controlled by your own agendas. I will
begin proofing BOS meeting minutes from the meeting I attend to
ensure they accurately reflect the meeting discussions.

How “IT” Happens At The Chichester Town
Library aka Thanks To The Volunteers
Lisa Prizio, Town Librarian, with her homemade haggis to help
celebrate the Scottish heritage of Robert Burns, shows the extent
that some will go to bring fun, learning and cooperation to the
events sponsored by the Library. In the background of the
picture is Lucille Noel, one of the Trustees of the Library, a huge
proponent of the Library and a refreshment provider also.
The Town Library recently hosted a very successful, old-fashioned,
New Hampshire Barn Dance, with over 90 in attendance. Some
asked, “How did you do all of this?” Others remarked on the
amount and varied refreshments available for participants.
The Library sponsors numerous events throughout the year to appeal
to the variety of tastes and needs of Chichester residents.
Basically, these events are free to those who participate.
How, then can most of these events occur? The ideas for the
programs come from different people and/or organizations, e.g., the
NH Humanities Council, residents, etc. But the support for the
programs, in many ways, comes from the volunteers.
Taking care of the “Down Under” Section of the Library, shelving and
straightening book donations and staffing used book sales are the
more obvious tasks accepted by the volunteers. Other
volunteers actually lead programs at the Library, such as those for
the pre-school and kindergarteners, writers and poets, book club,
crafts and more. Volunteers write submissions for the media
and help to update the Face Book page. And, volunteers provide
for set-up, tear-down and refreshments for the programs and
receptions offered by the Library.
February is “Volunteer Month” and, as
such, the Chichester Town Library staff and Trustees would like to
thank our volunteers who help make things happen.
Letter
Dear Chichester voters,
I am running for selectman and would like to share some of my
background and experience. I have lived in Chichester for 23 years.
I’m married and have 4 children. I’m a Civil Engineer and I work for
the Department of Transportation. I have served on the Planning
Board for the last 10 years and have been both Chairman and Vice
Chairman. I am on the Road Advisory Committee and the Parks and
Recreation Committee.
The thing I love most about Chichester is
its rural character and small town values. If elected, those are
areas I will strive to preserve. Thankfully the voters will have
choices this year with multiple candidates running for Selectman. I
am asking for your vote, but more importantly, please get out and
vote.
