2016 “Backyard Farming” Lecture Set
As part of the continuing “Backyard Farming” education program, the
Chichester Garden Club (CGC) and Chichester Agricultural Commission
(AgCom) will present info-workshops “Starting Seeds” by Master
Gardener Ann Lacroix on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, 7pm,
Chichester Town Library, 161 Main Street.
Master Gardener Ann Lacroix will talk
about what to plant and when, seed and potting soil choices, various
starter pots and trays, heat mats and lamps and the progression of
caring for your seeds until it’s time for hardening off and
transplanting your little gems into their new home gardens.
Master Gardener Ann Lacroix grew up surrounded by cow fields in the
1950’s in Connecticut. Living on a dead end road boarding
hundreds of acres, she grew up playing and enjoying the woods.
Ann’s parents were outdoor enthusiasts, always heading into the
wilds to canoe, camp and fish. The family had Springer
spaniels used for hunting pheasant, woodcock and duck. It was
a wild time then; people today have a hard time finding remote
places to enjoy nature and feel comfortable in the woods.
Long-time teacher and Speakers Bureau volunteer, Lacroix states, “I
brought my students every opportunity I could to teach them
appreciation for nature. So it was natural to embrace organic
gardening methods from my background.”
Both the Chichester Garden Club and AgCom promote gardening and
farming through education have partnered to create this Backyard
Farming series of info-workshops, a series with something for
everyone - whether you are a first-timer, amateur or veteran
gardener.
To join the Garden Club, please contact
[email protected]
or Ann Davis 603-903-3891; meetings are held at 7pm, Town Library,
the fourth Wednesday of the month, January through October.
The AgCom meets the third Wednesday of the month, 7pm, Town Library;
all are welcome.
Letter To The Editor
Chichester Tax Payers: Part #1
A government (Federal, State and Local)
which lays taxes on the people not required by urgent public
necessity and sound public policy is not a protector of liberty, but
an instrument of tyranny. It condemns the citizen to servitude.
“President Calvin Coolidge”
The main function of government is
to protect the individual’s right of wealth, property, liberty,
freedom and the pursuit of happiness and this pertains to local
government and they are public servants not masters and we are a
Constitutional Republic with individual rights, not a democracy
where mob or factions rule over the minority and it seems our
servants in the town and school have forgotten this or disregard
this little fact as they look upon the taxpayers as a pool to loot
and pillage from for their own self-serving whims. Have we forgotten
our founding of America and the tyranny of taxation with no
representation that our founding fathers fought back in 1776.
If the Tax Payers of
Chichester are sick of selectmen that tell us we are too ignorant to
vote for the Road Agent even though we also vote for Selectmen and
we have a school board member that says, the Taxpayers’ spoils
(wealth &property)are hers to spend as she feels fit because she won
the election; The tax payers need to stand up to the gated school
board and town meeting and vote in SB2 so all voters have a say on
election day to the school and town budgets without fear of
intimidation or a locked gate to limit public parking or even the
union control and special interest control of the meetings and
committees.
