Letter To The Editor
To
The Editor: To serve. That’s the reason my Dad, WWII Veteran Roy
Annis, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He took his commitment to country
seriously, and when it came time recently to apply for the Veterans
benefits my Dad had earned, it was heartwarming to find that members
of Senator Jeanne Shaheen’s staff took their commitment to serve
seriously as well. When trying to get through a very unfriendly
Veterans benefits system became unbearable, I reached out to Senator
Shaheen’s office. There, four angels – Mike Vlacich, Candace
Schaefer, Maggie Leuzarder and Scott Merrick – stepped to the plate
to help. They introduced me to another angel – Carter Higginbotham
of the New Hampshire State Veterans Council. Working together, they
were finally able to get my Dad the benefits he so deserves. My Dad
is my hero, but Senator Shaheen’s office and the NH State Veterans
Council deserve a salute as well. Their assistance was greatly
appreciated and meant so much to my family and I. A sincere thanks.

Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor; I wish to thank the voters of Allenstown, Epsom, and
Pittsfield for giving me an opportunity to compete in the general
election which is scheduled to take place on November 2, 2010. I
hope to be able to earn their vote to represent them at the State
House of Representatives investing all of my abilities and
maintaining my oath of office and being honest and forthcoming with
my constituents as I always have been. I thank each and every voter
who came out to vote whether or not they cast a ballot for me as
their state representative.
I
also wish to express my deepest gratitude to my friend, Joanne
Randall, who is leaving the office of the Selectmen to pursue her
career and spend more time with her family.
Joanne is one of the most dedicated people in the Epsom town
government in many, many years. She truly put the interest of the
Town of Epsom ahead of anything else while she served in office. She
is intelligent, courageous, persistent, and most importantly, honest
and fair. I will miss her from the Town Hall, but she will not be
gone too far away. I will continue to see her. The Town of Epsom was
truly blessed to have Joanne as a Selectman for the time that she
was able to serve the town.
Very truly yours, Tony Soltani

To
My Constituents In Allenstown, Epsom, And Pittsfield: This year
it looks like I’ll be sponsoring an even dozen bills, plus a few
co-sponsorships. Two of them are at the request of a constituent:
repealing the medical screening panels that result in a pre-trial
court case in medical malpractice suits; and eliminating the
requirement for seniors with a permanent disabled plate from proving
their disability every five years. It seems silly that our laws
state a permanent disability - unless it’s service-related -
needs to be recertified periodically.
I’m
continuing to work on the state government’s travel expenses, by
proposing to limit how much personal mileage can be reimbursed as
business usage. Some employees are being paid for driving over
20,000 miles a year in their personal cars. Besides the travel cost,
that’s a lot of state time to be on the road, so I’m proposing that
the fleet usage committee review any such expenses.
Another bill from last year that I’m resubmitting declared cable not
a protected utility for rentals, so that landlords could stop
providing TV to tenants who were being evicted. This concept came
from a court case where a tenant had illegally tapped into a cable
line, then sued when the landlord stopped paying the cable bill!
The
most important bill I’ve submitted this year is a rewrite of the
administrative procedures act, which defines how rules are written
and approved. There have been cases where the rules did not meet the
legislative intent, but the legislature can only object to rules,
not block them: and these rules have the full force of law. My bill
prevents rules from going into effect over the legislature’s
objection.
To
whoever’s taking our signs from along Route 4, please stop. We’ll be
glad to give you one if you ask.
