Memorial Concert By Epsom Town Band

The Epsom Town Band will present its third concert under the direction of Jim Lukeman on Friday, August 5th, from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at Webster Park.  It will be a memorial concert to honor long time member Wadsworth (Waddy) Winslow of Deerfield.  Mr. Winslow became the director of the band in 1964 and encouraged many young people to join and develop their musical talents.  He demonstrated his love for music as he directed and played his cornet throughout the years.

Mr. Winslow passed away in December of 2010 at the age of 92. His love of music is carried on in many of his children, grandchildren, and great grand children.  His cornet will be placed on an empty chair in the trumpet section during the concert to honor and remember him.

The band will play a variety of music including marches, show tunes, and “oldies” from past decades.  Mark your calendars and invite your friends to attend this “old-fashioned” concert in the park.  For more information, please contact Penny Graham at 736-9044.

Letter To The Editor

Took a couple of days and went to a place where people and dogs can ride in the back of pick-up trucks without someone getting their undies in a bunch because they knew better. Where the crown in the road is as much as 5% hype and ditches 4 to 5 feet right off the edge of the road and no one’s warping. Where everyone waved, smiled or nodded and spoke to you on the street warm and friendly; reminds me of here a few years ago. What happened? They all pretty much had a few thoughts in common like the government shouldn’t be able to spend more than it takes in, global warming is just a money making scheme, should be term limits and if the Federal Government stopped meddling with oil, the price would be less than $2 a gallon.

We, the Highway Department, have finally almost fixed the worst road in town; Mount Delight. Hundreds of trees were cut, ledge was blasted, under drain was installed, culverts replaced, thousands of rocks put back on stone walls that had fallen off over the years, gravel brought in and compacted and paved. We still need to pave some swales and gravel the shoulders.

On a much lesser scale we also did part of New Rye Road and are looking forward to working on Old Town Road.

Bless You,
Gordon Ellis
Your Road Agent
