Library News The Library would like to thank everyone who helped
make our children’s summer reading program, “One World, Many
Stories” such a huge success. Over 130 children participated in the
program this year. Special thanks to everyone who helped with the
program including generous donations from the Friends of the Epsom
Public Library, The Toy Box Toy Store in Pittsfield, and Epsom
Subway. Also a big thank you to all our volunteers including
Paige Parris, Nancy Yeaton, Jen O’Brien, Gage Munson, Lexi O’Brien,
Emma Osborne, Christine, Sarah Mae and Cecily Schultz who helped
with our special activities! Finally thank you to all the parents,
grandparents and caregivers who bring their children to the library
and encourage them to read!
Evergreen Lodge #53 and
Ivy Green Rebekah Lodge #36 are sponsoring another great
Dinner/Cabaret Show on Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15
at the American Legion Hall. The dinner/show begins at 6 pm and
includes turkey, roast beef and all the fixings. The show features
all local talent! Reservations are required and can be made by
calling 736-4707 or 736-8885. Plan to join us for a fun night
of great food and entertainment. Proceeds will be used to help bring
the historic Odd Fellows Hall into code compliance!
Epsom Central School
The 8th Grade Class of 2012 is hosting the
Cruiz’n To DC classic car show at Globe Manufacturing in Pittsfield,
NH on Saturday, September 24th. All makes models
and years are welcome. Bikes/Jeeps and mud trucks are also
welcome. Come and show off your wheels or just enjoy viewing
some great classic cars and trucks. Vehicle registration is
$10 and the first 100 registrations get a goody bag. Gates
open at 9 am. Free admission for spectators. There will
be many trophies including the Kids Choice Trophy. Also enjoy
food, vendors, raffles and music. Come have a great time and
support the ECS 8th Grade Class efforts to experience Washington DC.

Wesley Fryer is a
digital learning consultant, author, digital storyteller, educator
and change agent. With respect to school change, he describes
himself as a “catalyst for creative engagement and collaborative
learning.” His blog, “Moving at the Speed of Creativity” (www.speedofcreativity.org)
was selected as the 2006 “Best Learning Theory Blog” by eSchoolnews
and Discovery Education, and is utilized regularly by thousands of
educators worldwide.
He teaches technology integration courses
for pre-service teachers as an adjunct instructor at the University
of Central Oklahoma, and has served as a co-convener for the
annual K-12 Online Conference since it began in 2006. Wesley became
a Google Certified Teacher in 2009; was named an Apple Distinguished
Educator in 2005; is a 1992 graduate of the US Air Force Academy;
and a Fulbright Scholar. His educational background includes service
as an elementary classroom teacher, campus technology integration
specialist, college director of distance learning, state director
for education advocacy for AT&T, and director of technology for a
state historical association. Wesley is the author of the 2011
eBook, “Playing with Media: simple ideas for powerful sharing."
Paintings By Jill Greenwood At The Epsom Public Library
The Epsom
Public Library is pleased to present “Embracing Fog – A Mother’s
Journey Through Autism,” an exhibit of oil paintings by Jill
Greenwood of Bedford, NH. This striking collection of abstract
works is the artist’s commentary on the life insights gained in the
raising of her autistic son. The show runs through October 22,
and may be viewed during regular library hours: Monday –Thursday, 10
am to 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm.

New Rye
Church Celebrates Its 250th Anniversary – Grand Finale! Submitted

After a year long celebration
of the semiquincentennial of its founding, New Rye Union
Congregational Church in Epsom will culminate its celebration this
weekend with a series of events. On Friday 9/23, there will be a
service of commemoration and celebration held at the church
beginning at 7 p.m. with refreshments and fellowship after the
service.
On the following day (9/24), the church will hold
a musical celebration at Webster Park located at the junction of
Rte. 28 and Short Falls Road, Epsom. A variety of music is
planned, including inspirational music, Irish tunes and the fiddling
of Jimbo Pero. The festivities will begin at 11 a.m. and a free
lunch, including hotdogs, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad,
rolls, drinks and desserts, will be served at 1 p.m. (attendees are
advised to bring their own lawn/folding chairs).
On Sunday 9/25,
a very special celebratory worship service will be held at the
church beginning at 10 a.m., which will be followed by refreshments
and fellowship in the parish hall. “Reverend Jim’s” sermon that
morning will be based on the same scripture selection used at the
installation service for the Rev. John Tucke (the first pastor
called to Epsom on 9/23/1761).
An open invitation is extended to
area churches and to the public at large to attend any or all of
