You are invited to participate in the Christian Business Leader’s
Prayer Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 22nd at 8:00 am at
the Epsom Bible Church. We will be praying for each other, our
businesses, the communities we live and work in, as well as for our
government leaders, both national and local.
All are welcome to join us. We will be in the fellowship of our
Lord, Jesus Christ, and ask that you consider joining us and
bringing a friend.
We look forward to seeing you and praying for you!
In an effort to help manage the cost of clothing for our local
families, Epsom Bible Church will be holding a free clothing swap on
Saturday, October 6th from 9-12 noon. You may bring donated clothing
beginning at 8:30 am. All clothes need to be clean and in good
repair (no rips or stains), and separated by size and gender. There
is no cost and you do not have to make a clothing donation in
order to take items. Call for more information or if you are
interested in volunteering at 344-8843.

Muddle Headed... Liberal?
Call me what you will, but Roger Bennet (SVS August 8, 2012) would
have lost points in a formal debate by calling me names rather than
responding to my assertions and questions on gun control (SVS August
1, 2012).
Mr. Bennet did offer “Had there been a person (or persons) in that
Colorado movie theater with a legally carried handgun, the matter
could have been over quickly.” That’s a good point.
However, in a dark, smoke filled theater, what are the odds of a
single person with a legally carried handgun stopping that shooter?
Or is he suggesting everyone in the theater (packin’) should
start shooting up the place?
I believe in the “Castle Doctrine” (use of deadly force against home
intruders). I believe in handgun use for self-defense. I do not
believe in any form of “stand your ground” whereby unless there is
an eyewitness or camera, anyone can shoot and kill; later claiming
they “felt” threatened.
At any rate, I promise to voters of Allenstown, Epsom and
Pittsfield, I will be honest about my positions. The vote is yours.
I will be happy to accept your decision either way.

Starting Your Own Small Business
Are you thinking of starting a small business? On Wednesday,
August 22, at 7:00 pm, Hugh Curley, an Economic Development
Specialist with the U.S. Small Business Administration, will discuss
“Finding Help to Start or Grow Your Business.” Mr. Curley will
not only provide an overview of the programs available to support
entrepreneurs as they start and grow their businesses in New
Hampshire but he will also talk about how to best access them.
Although relatively new to New Hampshire, having located here in
2009, Mr. Curley worked in the area of business and community
development in Connecticut for the past twenty years on the local,
regional and federal levels. In his current position, he provides
valuable information on services available through the SBA, their
resource partners, and state and municipal economic development
agencies.
Since arriving in Epsom in 2010, Mr. Curley has served on the Epsom
Cable Contract Renewal Committee, and he currently serves as Chair
of the Epsom Cemetery Trustees.
Letter
To our constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield:
People driving on Route 28 might have seen the John Reagan for State
Senate sign in our yard. John Reagan is a retired firefighter, a
three term State Representative and current Selectman in Deerfield.
Carol has worked with him in the House and knows he is hard working,
conscientious and knowledgeable about many issues facing the state.
John also has the time necessary to be a senator; with only 24
senators, each must serve on several committees and hold multiple
positions.
This session, there were ten freshman senators, and they were less
than effective for their constituents because many had never been in
the House, either. They didn’t know the rules, written and
unwritten, and the veterans outmaneuvered them on many issues. Half
the freshman Senators have decided not to run for re-election, in
large part because they had underestimated the time commitment
required.
Howard Pearl, the other Republican candidate, is a farmer from
Loudon, a small businessman and a New Hampshire native with a long
family history here. He’s a nice person, friendly and sociable, who
has worked with farmers throughout the area. However, he has never
served in the legislature. More significantly, Howard has declined
to state his position on any of the issues that every Representative
or Senator faces. We prepared, for Pittsfield Old Home Day, a
summary of 30 assorted bills that came to a vote this session, with
our votes, Tony Soltani’s and John Reagan’s. Gerard LeDuc worked
through the bills and presented how he would have voted. Howard
Pearl would not give us his position on any of these bills.
For these reasons, we support John Reagan for State Senate and urge
you to vote for him.
Interested readers can email Carol for her newsletter.

Letter To The Editor
I have known Rep. Tony Soltani for some 15 years, having met him
when I started serving as a State Rep, myself, back in 1997.
In all the years I’ve served alongside him, I have never once seen
him compromise his integrity or his beliefs, back down from a tough
issue, or walk away from doing the right thing. In fact, he’s the
first person to stand up and call out an injustice.
Some candidates tell reporters that they stand for this or believe
in that. Who knows what that means? Tony Soltani has a track
record that clearly demonstrates his unwavering commitment to his
constituents, to liberty and fiscal conservatism, and to ensuring
that what we love about our New Hampshire stays strong!
