Epsom Central School Staff And Faculty
Rebecca Powers, 2nd Grade Teacher
Rebecca is one of a team of three second grade teachers at ECS. She
earned a BS in Elementary Education and Special Education,
graduating from the University of New England. Before coming to ECS,
she taught Grade 4 in Antrim for two years and worked as a
behavioral specialist in Concord for one year. At ECS, Rebecca
served as a Case Manager for 6th grade students and followed them
through until their 8th grade graduation. She then taught 4th grade
for one year and is now in her third year in the 2nd grade.
Rebecca says that, “In Epsom, I have really found my place
professionally. I have grown as a teacher, and I have applied many
different styles of teaching to reach all learners. When you love
what you do every day, it doesn’t feel like work. I’m passionate
about teaching and greet each one of my students at the door with a
smile every morning!” Rebecca believes that a social curriculum is
as important as academics. For example, she holds a morning meeting
with her students every day to give the children a better sense of
belonging, significance, and fun. Rebecca has carefully studied the
Responsive Classroom model, which increases academic achievement,
decreases problem behaviors, and improves social skills.
Rebecca started teaching right out of college, far from home, and
“in the middle of nowhere.” She found her way to ECS and fit right
in with a strong team who collaborate, communicate, and work well
with one another. She says, “We feed off one another’s strengths,
which makes us better teachers.” Rebecca feels that educating a
child is a team effort, between teacher, student, and parents.
Rebecca lives in Concord with her boyfriend, Brian, and enjoys
trying new restaurants and spending time on Lake Winnipesaukee. She
also enjoys cooking, baking, and trying new recipes.
