Epsom Library News

Tracy L. Matteson of Northwood will speak at the library on Monday, December 2, at 7:00 p.m.  about her book Funny You Should Ask, a Diary of One Woman’s Breast Cancer Journey.  The book reveals intimate details and highlights the humor of the physical and emotional rollercoaster of finding balance, personal discoveries, and trying to feel “whole” through the ups and downs of breast cancer treatment.

The following review by Lily for Amazon captures the essence of the book.

“This book is a must read for women being treated for breast cancer and for anyone who knows someone going through this journey.  It not only describes the medical aspects of the treatments, but it is intertwined with humor, hope, and as the author describes, BLESSINGS.  The photography by Brian Kelly is amazing.  It shows the reality as well as the times of sadness and joys.  How many women go into the operating room for a double mastectomy with a smile of their faces?  Check it out.  You will be amazed.”

Epsom Central School Staff And Faculty

Mrs. Dawn Gosselin, Speech Tutor

In a small office off a busy hallway, Mrs. Gosselin provides speech services to preschoolers through eighth graders, working on a one-on-one basis or with small groups. A paraprofessional highly qualified in her area, she helps those children who have difficulty pronouncing certain sounds, and understanding figurative language among other language difficulties. After working for a year at PA, Mrs. Gosselin is now in her 14th year at ECS, where she has worked as a substitute teacher, a paraprofessional, and, for over seven years, a speech tutor. She has also coached cheerleading, has been a team leader, is a SchoolCare Employee Representative, and Co-President of the Epsom Support Staff Association.

Mrs. Gosselin loves to see the pride in children when their faces light up after doing something successfully for the first time. She tries to make her sessions fun for the children by incorporating a game and giving lots of positive support. Students enjoy going to Speech because learning is made fun.

At ECS, Mrs. Gosselin loves the feel of community and family, which she calls a tightly-knit group of people who genuinely care about one another. When her son had an accident in January, the faculty put together a gift basket for him, and they still often ask about him. Mrs. Gosselin would suggest to parents that they provide a good model by articulating well and using proper grammar. She lives in Epsom with Ken, her husband of 23 years, and two children currently in college. She loves to garden, make jewelry, do crafts, and look after her two small dogs.
