Thank You

Ivy Green Rebekah Lodge #36 and Evergreen Lodge #53 would like to thank the Epsom Community for their generous support for our annual Christmas projects. The “Santa” gift stars made wishes come true for 40 children through the “Friends of Forgotten Children.”

Thanks to the Epsom Public Library and Circle Restaurant for displaying the stars! Special thanks to Tracy and John Chinn and Carol and Dan Ransom for coordinating this event and delivering the gifts. Our annual Photos with Santa allowed us to make a generous monetary donation to Epsom Central School for children and families in need. Thank you to Jay and Patricia Hickey of McCoy Mountain Tree Farm, John Emerson and The Epsom Fire Dept. for their donations of trees, and friends and members from both lodges who donated cookies, helped wrap gifts and helped on the day of the event.

Mrs. Darcy May, 3rd Grade Teacher

A visitor to Darcy’s classroom is made welcome by a woman with a fine sense of humor, one of three 3rd grade teachers at ECS. Darcy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and Special Education from Notre Dame College. She started at ECS 20 years ago as a paraprofessional, spending her first four years here in that position while finishing her degree. Darcy then worked for four years as a Special Education teacher and is now in her 12th year teaching the 3rd grade.

Darcy loves to learn from the children. She uses her sense of humor with them and gets repaid in kind. She says, “If I notice kids aren’t paying attention, I’ll make some off-the-wall remark just to see if that gets their attention.” She says her days are full of laughter with other teachers as well as the kids. Darcy loves the family atmosphere at ECS and offers an example from several years ago. She was sick for a while and could neither teach nor care for her family, but that Christmas turned out to be the “best ever,” due to improvement in her health as well as strong faculty support. She says, “My husband stopped at a different staff member’s home each week while on the way home to pick up family dinners made by the staff members.”

Darcy would suggest that parents spend as much time as practical with their children before the quickly passing years are gone. She and Jamie, her husband of 18 years recently moved to Epsom with their three daughters, two dogs, and a cat. Before this time, Darcy and her husband had been “tuitioning” their children at ECS. She says, “I know what education and care they’re getting here. Hannah, 12, is in the 7th grade; Lillian, 9, is in the 4th grade; and Isabelle, 7, is in second grade.” Darcy enjoys spending time with her family, camping, and reading.
