Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
This week, the House is holding hearings on Senate bills. My
committee heard thirteen bills, mostly fairly minor. SB305, on motor
vehicle dealers, for example, simply allows a dealer in good
standing to open a second location without attending “dealer
school.” The sponsor brought in an amendment to also cover test
drives of heavy trucks, and allowing used cars to be delivered with
the temporary inspection sticker, rather than waiting for a second
inspection.
SB315, creating a new board for local building officials (building
inspectors and code enforcement officers) is an attempt to limit
entrance to yet another profession, but is so badly written, with so
many questions unanswered, that I don’t expect it to pass: even the
proponents brought up some issues with the wording, and we have only
two weeks to work on it. SB405, requiring radon mitigation system
installers to register with the home inspectors’ board, is at least
a clean bill. I don’t think it’s necessary, but at least the bill
doesn’t need a lot of fixing.
SB186, which I co-sponsored, requires training for the directors of
non-profits who handle at least $250,000 of public money. As
happened last time, the non-profits arrived en masse to oppose it,
claiming that their directors were well trained and knew their duty
to safeguard the people’s money. I’m working on an amendment to
exempt from this requirement any organization that reports their
equivalent training program, since I believe even thinking about
their training will force the boards to clarify their
responsibility. SB376 requires board members of risk pools (such as
the Local Government Center) to file the same financial disclosure
statements other appointed officials must.

News From The Epsom Food Pantry
All is running smoothly from the Pantry. New Folks are visiting our
Pantry weekly. We will be receiving our first delivery from USDA
next week which will help us greatly. We still will have needs such
as paper goods, jelly for the kids and with Easter just around the
corner some nice Easter eggs. Actually anything we receive is
greatly appreciated. Now I have one request from all you gardeners.
When you are planting this spring would you kindly do a row for the
Food Pantry.
Nothing like nice fresh veggies to perk us up.
Until next time, Priscilla
