Epsom Food Pantry
Well, Fall has arrived and we are certainly busy at the Pantry. In
doing our inventory of stock we see that we need more soup for the
members. So, if and when you are thinking about a donation, soup
would be just great.
We have several drop off spots in town such as TD Bank, Care
Pharmacy, Library, C21 Thompson RE and our newest, Subway at the
circle. If you cannot make the Pantry itself these are always
available.
Again, your gardens were just great and we had such a great
variety. Thank you all so much from the staff and members of the
Epsom Food Pantry.
Until next time,
Priscilla
Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield,
The House met this week to act on the Governor’s vetoes, with the
Constitutional requirement of 2/3 of those present and voting to
overturn the veto. We first considered HB591, on abusive work
environment, which was sponsored by Representative Dianne Schuett of
Pembroke, with Frank Davis (Pembroke) and Alan Turcotte (Allenstown)
cosponsors. This bill, as passed by the House, had required state
agencies to develop policies to prevent abusive work environments,
and there was plenty of testimony about bad morale and poor
management. The Senate version, which was finally adopted, included
very broad definitions that appeared to create opportunities to game
the system and embroil the state in incessant litigation. The debate
was between those who wanted to pass, right now, a flawed bill to
show concern for the employees, and those who believed management
actions of this type should not require legislation, or that any
legislation should be better thought through. The vote was 141-154,
so that veto stood.
HB685, confirming that the legislative budget assistant auditors can
access confidential material – as they have for years - was debated
between some lawyers who wanted to maintain lawyer-client privilege
at all costs and those who use the audit material and know how well
auditors treat confidential material. Both Republican and Democrat
leadership spoke in favor of overriding the veto, but the 190-113
vote didn’t reach 2/3.
HB1244, forbidding the lottery commission from releasing the names
of winners without their consent, was debated on the principles of
personal privacy versus government transparency. The 160-142 vote
was not enough to override the veto.
I expect legislation on all three topics next session, hopefully
more carefully crafted.
Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, with more details
than fit here.

Born in Haverhill, MA on February 13, 1926, Janet was the daughter

Mrs. Gordon was an accomplished classical pianist and singer. She
enjoyed playing the piano for people and also the organ at the

Her pets, especially her 7 beloved cats, were her number one
priority. She devoted herself to animal care and feral cat
rehabilitation, and was a member of several animal welfare
organizations.
Janet was the widow of Richard A. Gordon, who died in 2009 and to
whom she had been married 60 years. She is survived by a daughter,
Jean Wyatt and her husband Craig of Chichester; a son, Bruce Gordon
