Letter To The Editor
For the last week before the Republican primary, there are two races
left, neither of which should be competitive, although you will see
multiple names on the ballot in Epsom and Pittsfield. These are
state senator and state representative. The real choices in these
races will come in November.
Our senator, John Reagan, is running for reelection. I happen to
think he’s the best one of the 24. John has a superb voting record,
he’s gotten bills through for his towns and constituents, and he’s a
regular at community events all over the district. If only the
others would copy him... You will also see Howard Pearl on the
ballot, but he has had to drop out of the race for personal reasons.
We have three state representatives covering Pittsfield and Epsom.
Please vote for Carol, myself and David Palfrey. David is a retired
banker who specialized in the trust business (something New
Hampshire excels at, by the way – we attract trusts from other
states). More importantly, he has a lot of political experience from
his time in Franklin. He was their mayor and he represented them in
Concord, serving on the commerce committee. David’s wife Judy is an
artist. They moved to Epsom about a year ago to be closer to family.
Michael Brewster’s name is also on the ballot, but he was a Democrat
up until this year and just can’t be considered a serious candidate.
See you at the polls on Tuesday, September 9!
Rep. Dan McGuire

Author Presentation
On Wednesday, September 10, at 7:00 p.m., the library will present
Marina Dutzmann Kirsch who will discuss her book Flight of
Remembrance, a World War II Memoir of Love and Survival. This true
story, written by the daughter of the protagonists, provides a
window into the experiences of two people on “the other side” of
World War II: Rolf, a Latvian aeronautical engineering student
forced to repatriate to Nazi Germany before the first Soviet
takeover, and Lilo, the young German woman he meets in Berlin.
A love story of two people for each other that has endured for over
70 years and across two continents, the book also highlights a young
man’s pursuit of his chosen technical calling amidst wartime chaos
and upheaval.
Signed books will be available for purchase, and refreshments will
be served.
Mums Delivery
Mums sold by the Friends of the Epsom Library during August will be
delivered to the library on Tuesday, September 9 and may be picked
up after 12:00 noon that day or on Wednesday or Thursday that week.
Epsom Food Pantry
Well another great week at the Pantry. We were fortunate to get a
large donation of eggs from the Market Basket in Tilton. Thank you.
Also, the delivery from the Elks was just awesome and filled our
shelves with some much needed food. We have now increased our
membership to 62 households, so our need is great.
As I mentioned in last week’s article BREAD is now a problem.
Anybody got any idea as to an outlet for us? Also, do not forget our
table at the Primaries on September 9th.
And again, many thanks to the tireless workers behind the scenes
such as Liz Robinson, Jim Robinson, Armand Claris, Cheryl Arvanitis,
Janet Porter and, of course, Ken Brown and all the other wonderful
workers who are so faithful to our Pantry. I will share more names
next week.
Until then,
Priscilla
