The next date for the Infant Program at the Epsom Public Library will be on Tuesday, February 9th at 1:30 pm. Infants and their caregivers are invited to join the fun as the children enjoy songs, stories, movement activities and age appropriate toys. Story Times continue on Mondays at 10 am, Tuesdays at 1:30 pm and Thursdays at 3:30 pm. Toddler Time: Thursdays at 10 am and Lego Club: Thursdays at 3:30 pm. For info about any of these programs call 736-9920.

The Epsom Public Library will be showing the movie “No Escape” on Wednesday, February 10 at 1:30 PM.  This film, starring Owen Wilson, Lake Bell and Pierce Brosnan tells the story of an American businessman who has settled with his family in Southeast Asia just as there is a violent political uprising.  They must look for a safe way out.  Pete Hammond of Deadline said “a must see heart-pounding action that will leave you breathless.”  In case of bad weather, call the library to make sure it is open. This film is rated R for strong violence throughout and for language.

Marie Byrne, Epsom HealthCare Center’s Admissions Coordinator is having fun coloring with one of the residents, Helen Heiwig. Marie was Epsom’s Employee of the Month for December!

Letter To The Editor

I don’t know about you, but I really can’t stand litter bugs.  On Monday, January 25th at approximately 5:30 PM, while stopped at the end of my driveway, I witnessed a small blue car throwing trash out their window.  Not once, but twice, they threw trash into the woods.

I wasn’t able to get a plate number, but if I did, you bet I’d be calling the police.  I’m sure a $500 dollar fine would get your attention and your wallet, not to mention having it on your record would be embarrassing.

So, to the person(s) who continue to do this, just remember people are watching and sooner or later you’ll get caught.

Letter To The Editor

I am a little more than perplexed.

Using JFK as what a democrat is and stands for... it’s interesting to see the Republican Party has five of its top eight people running for President, being what I would consider democrats and the Democratic Party top two being a Socialist and a Marxist.

Can somebody explain? Are there no long standards and values to follow?

Can you imagine publishing what each stood for, including values and what they have accomplished, both positive and negative, and the long and short term results, without using names or their party!

Half would, in all probability, not even be considered.

Looking forward to your feedback.

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, and Pittsfield, This week the House meet briefly, with only seven bills to be voted on (plus nine more that were dealt with in one voice vote.) HB1281, on divorce procedures, was quickly killed without debate. HB1119, allowing the town optional fee on auto registrations for transportation improvements to increase from $5 to $10, was not debated but the committee recommendation of “ought to pass” was defeated on a voice vote while the computer system went down. We went on to have an old-fashioned standing division vote, where those in favor stand while the clerk’s staff counts and recounts, then those opposed stand while the counting is repeated. The motion to kill the bill passed, 165-127.

HB1562, allowing counties to establish heroin prevention and treatment programs, was debated at length, then killed on a standing division vote, 283-43. I voted to kill it because I don’t think counties are the right level of government for this sort of program, and because all county programs are funded through property taxes.

HB1428, Dan’s bill expanding the definition of antique trailers, passed without comment. (his HB1477, extending the 10-day grace period before an auto inspection is necessary to transporters as well as new owner, also passed as a consent item.) HJR, calling for an investigation and defunding of Planned Parenthood, was debated at great length, without changing any opinions. A motion to table was defeated, 112-127, on a manual roll call vote. The vote was 227-100 to kill it, thankfully back on the electronic system.

The last two bills were held over until the next session, as many committees were meeting in the afternoon.

Interested readers can email me for my newsletter, with more details than fit here.
