On Tuesday, April 26, the Epsom Public Library will be showing the
movie “The Revenant” at 1:30PM. Leonardo DiCaprio won the
Oscar for Best Actor in this film about survival and revenge.
The harsh majesty of the wintertime Pacific Northwest has never been
captured like this. Taking place in the 1820’s American
wilderness where the mountain men carved out a living trapping for
furs, where blizzards, avalanches, and storms are common place, and
men had little time for anything but survival in this cold, brutal
hell they have found themselves. This movie is rated R. Please
note that this is on Tuesday, not the usual Wednesday matinees of
the winter. For more information, call the library at
736-9920.
Epsom Food
Pantry
Good morning one and all. The sun is shining. Exciting.
Well on to Food Pantry. Ken had a busy week. Two pickups, one
in Concord and the other in Manchester and then the putting away all
the food in the pantry. I know June and of course, Armand help
with this job, and Armand goes with Ken on most pickups. He is
a big asset to our Pantry.
In talking with Ken, he asked to give our very heartfelt thanks to
the Epsom Chichester Lions Club for a very generous donation.
We are so lucky to have such wonderful friends in the community.
Our needs right now are tomato soup and paper goods. And, of
course, fresh vegetables this summer.
Until next time,
Priscilla

Letter To The
Editor
Spring has been an in and out thing so far. Looking forward to
the summer projects. This summer we will be doing a paving
project on North, Samuel and Ox. We will be putting up signs
to keep you informed and to know which way to go on certain days.
Late summer or early fall we will be
installing an open bottom box culvert on Echo Valley Farm Road.
The grader is out and working. This will
be another good year!
Bless You,
Your Road Agent

Letter To The
Editor
This is to inform the residents of Epsom
that a letter was read at the Monday night Selectmen’s meeting,
4/11/16, from the LCHIP program (Jenna Lapachinski, HRS).
This letter ensues the following: “In
regard to the pews, they should absolutely stay in place until a new
use for the meetinghouse has been determined.
After reviewing the project file and
previous correspondence, it appears that the pews have come up
several times and the general response from both LCHIP and DHR has
been that the pews and their configuration are important and
character defining elements of the building’s interior.
In one of the earlier reuse plans a row of
pews were planned for removal to better accommodate barrier free
access. The response to that proposed plan was that those pews
should be carefully preserved and protected for use elsewhere in the
building or the proposed civic complex. Though the proposed use of
the building has changed, I think the treatment approach for the
pews is still applicable. As pews are a character defining feature
of the building, great care should be taken to retain them as part
of their future reuse.
Though currently reviewed as a liability,
I think with careful planning and creative thinking, the pews can
certainly be an asset.”

Epsom Bible Church Awana Clubs recently
held their Annual Grand Prix Races. Twelve Clubbers, in third-sixth
grade raced the cars they had built from kits on our 30 foot track.
The cars were judged in both speed and design divisions, with 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place trophies awarded in each division.
What better way to celebrate early childhood than to share the
childrens’ work. The kids and staff at Circle Child Care have
worked hard to show their stuff thanks to the Circle Restaraunt, the
heart of Epsom. From babies and fingerpaint (usually chocolate
pudding) to detailed plans for the leprecon trap the kids
express their individuality, their curiosity, their eagerness to
learn. We are happy to share the privelege we have to spend
our days with the cutest of cute, the dearest of dear, the brightest
of the future.

Selectmen’s Update
Now that March madness has come and gone, we have a little time to
tell the residents what has been going on in our Town. March
is one of our busiest times of year due to Deliberations and Voting.
Preparing for the Budget season actually starts around November!
The Board of Selectmen has remained the same this year. Hugh
Curley was elected another term.
There was a change made to the Selectmen’s
meeting agenda and they will meet every other week (instead of
weekly). Due to time constraints from their full time jobs, every
other week works better, plus, the staff in the office helps out
tremendously to keep things running smoothly.
Some of the projects that are being worked
on right now are:
On-going plans to replace the bridge over
Griffin Brook.
Obtaining new Insurance Company for our
property liability.
On April 4th, the Fire Chief coordinated a
public forum at the School for the Heroin Crisis that we are all
experiencing.
The Selectmen would like to discuss the
“school agreement” with the School Board as it relates to Pembroke
Academy.
We have just hired M&N Assessing Services
for a four year term to begin in 2017.
The Webster Park reservations are now
being processed at the Town Office.
Earth Day is on April 22nd.
The Zoning Board of Adjustment has had a
couple of hearings and the Planning Board is finishing up the
Capital Improvement Plan.
All of the Town information, schedules, meeting notices and minutes
and list of Departments can be found on our web site at
www.epsomnh.org. Also, the Town Reports are on
our web site, just click on “Town Clerk.”
Mr. Crowley recently donated his family’s collection of old Town
Reports. It is interesting to compare the reports! Here is a
“bit-of-history” - In the year 1912 – the appropriation for the
school tuition was $400.00 and the inventory list included totals of
sheep, cows, oxen, hogs, and horses (not just buildings). The total
inventory list was $607,048.00 and the rate of taxation on each
$100.00 valuation was $1.27.
