On Wednesday, June 8 at 1:30 PM, the Epsom Public Library will be
showing the move, “JOY”. Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro and
Bradley Cooper star in this wild story of a family across four
generations. Amazon says the film “centers on the girl who becomes

Ivy Green Rebekah Lodge #36 will be hosting a Baby Shower/Tea to
benefit the Concord Hospital Family Health Center Baby Infant
Layette Program on Sunday, June 5th at 2pm at the Epsom Public
Library. Items needed include baby clothing 0-6 months, onesies,
pajamas, bibs, toiletries, receiving blankets, sweaters, socks, etc.
Everyone is welcome to attend this worthwhile event. Tea
refreshments will be provided. Items may be dropped off at the

Congratulations to Christina Barton of
Epsom, who has been named to the Dean’s List at Paul Smith’s College
for the spring 2016 semester. Barton, who is majoring in park and
conservation management, earned a semester average of 3.3 or higher
to receive this distinction.
Evergreen Lodge #53 and American Legion Post #112 are sponsoring a
Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 4th from 8:30-11:30 am. This event
is free to youth ages 16 and under. Bring your favorite fishing pole
and bait. Some loaner poles and bait will be available. Prizes will
be given to the top 3 in each age group. Refreshments will be

Well good morning one and all! The sun is shining. That makes
us all feel good.
Another busy week at the Pantry. I had a lovely visit from
Nathan Clark, an 8th grader from Epsom Central who interviewed me on
the workings of the Food Pantry. It is so rewarding when the young
people have an interest in the Pantry and how we run it. I gave him
a tour and answered all his questions.
Well Memorial Day just passed. That is
such a wonderful day with the program at the Legion Hall. A day we
remember our service men who have lost their lives and the men and
women now serving. And our love ones. But it also is the time we
start our gardens. Do not forget us here at the Pantry. We look
forward to your generous gifts of veggies.

To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom,
and Pittsfield, Last week the House met on Thursday, to review all
bills on which the House and Senate had passed different versions.
There are only three choices: agree with the Senate amendment, in
which case the bill goes on to the governor; refuse the amendment,
so the bill dies; or ask for a committee of conference to sweat out
the details. I was fortunate; we concurred, without debate, on two
of my bills: HB1246, on speech language assistants, and HB1395, on
municipal record storage. Very few votes generated debate; the usual
rule is to agree with requesting a committee of conference, and vote
on the other recommendations as you did when the basic bill was in
front of you.
HB1661, forbidding licensed counselors
from engaging in “conversion therapy” was debated: the committee
wanted a committee of conference, the sponsor to concur with the
Senate. I voted for the committee of conference because, although I
certainly oppose the horrible things some have done in the name of
conversion therapy, I don’t think the language of HB1661 provides
enough protection for counselors who deal with minors confused about
their sexuality. The House voted, 181-138, for the conference.
SCR3, a petition for congress to call a
constitutional convention to address the role of money in elections,
was removed from the table, 171-106, then briefly debated. It was
voted to pass, 171-119, but a 2/3 vote was needed to act on it after
it’s deadline. I voted against it because I believe that any
limitations on political spending would interfere with free speech
rights. After that vote, SCR4, which wanted a constitutional
convention on fiscal discipline, was not removed from the table,
80-211.

Unit 112 President Jane C. LeDuc and Secretary/Treasurer Pam
Connor at the American Legion 98th State Convention held on May 21,
2016. The convention was held at the Indian Head Resort, in Lincoln,
NH. Where Auxiliary unit 112 recieved the Morrison Trophy Award for
having the highest percentage of membership on January 1st, 2016 in
for District 5 Auxiliary.

Selectmen Update
The NHDES sent out letters to property owners regarding a potential
contamination of wells due to a gasoline component known as MtBE.
To date, the NHDES has sampled 19 wells. Most of the testing
results have come back below the detected limit.
The Highway Department is working on the paving project on North
Road and the bid was awarded to Pike Industries. A FEMA Grant
project for New Orchard Road repairs is also being pursued.
The area Towns through SVRTA have submitted a request for proposal
for Health Insurance. SVRTA stands for Suncook Valley Regional
Town Association and it is comprised of Allenstown, Barnstead,
Chichester, Epsom, Northwood, Pembroke, Pittsfield and Strafford.
The SVRTA was created in 2007 to explore the possibilities for
inter-municipal collaboration in such areas as assessing, building
inspection/code enforcement, purchasing and public safety.
One of the warrant articles voted on this year was about an
exemption for Solar Energy. The installation of the solar
energy system will create a new assessment value. You will have to
apply for the exemption. Once approved, it means your taxes
will not increase due to the new solar energy system. (RSA

The Board of Selectmen congratulates Nick
Muise of his recent achievement of becoming Epsom’s newest Eagle
Scout.
Mr. Crowley recently donated his family’s collection of old Town
Reports. It is interesting to compare the reports! Here is a
“bit-of-history” - In the year 1933 – the town payments
listed Bounties of 23 Hedgehogs at $4.60, Damage to Sheep (known as
“Dog Damage”) at $32.50, Constable Badge at $1.33 and Snow removal
at $299.94 (to 7 plow truck drivers.) In the “Constable”
report it appears that Hen Thieves was the most serious crime
committed in 1933. Scarlet fever cases were cared for by the
Health Officer at a cost of $10.00
