Movie matinees continue as the Epsom
Public Library shows the movie “Eye in the Sky” on Wednesday, August
24 at 1:30 PM.
Academy Award winning actress Helen Mirren plays a commander of an
international mission to capture lethal terrorists in Kenya.
The mission becomes complicated when drone pilots see a young girl
in the “kill zone.” Also starring the late Alan Rickman and
Academy Award nominee Barkhad Abdi, “Eye in the Sky” “holds us in a
vise and keeps squeezing” (Rolling Stone).
Abstract Painter Gretchen Warsen To Exhibit “Ladders” At
Epsom Public Library
Award-winning artist Gretchen Warsen will exhibit her collection of
acrylic and mixed-media abstract paintings entitled, “Ladders” at
Epsom Public Library, August 20-October 1, 2016. The opening
reception will be Saturday, August 20, 3-5pm; the public is
cordially invited to meet the artist and enjoy light refreshments.
Over the past 2 years Gretchen has put
together a body of work that has a common element: a ladder shape.
Gretchen is attracted to the repeating angular pattern and the fact
that a ladder is a useful tool, not only for accomplishing tasks,
but for moving the eye around the painting. She feels that the
ladder represents a bridge between high and low—a connection between
Heaven and Earth—and fosters a change in perspective. The works on
canvas/wood panel are all large-scale, colorful, multi-layered
paintings which often give a sense of—and are inspired by—local
landscape and nature, while the mixed-media paper pieces are smaller
with ample white space and represent little worlds of imagination
and wonder.
Gretchen Warsen grew up in Swanville, Maine where the weather and
raw landscape made its impression on her. Gretchen graduated from
Bates College as a Studio Art major, with one semester spent abroad
at the Tyler School of Art in Rome. After the birth of her first
daughter in 2002, Gretchen became a full-time mom, but by 2012,
decided to make painting more of a priority. Gretchen lives in
Westford, Massachusetts with her husband, two girls, and several
pets. You can contact Gretchen via email:
[email protected] or
her web site: toddyponddesigns.squarespace.com.
Awards: “Foggy Morning” won best in show at the Westford Parish
Center for the Arts Regional Art Event 2016, and “Snow” won
honorable mention in 2015. Her acrylic painting, “Nantucket
Sails” was accepted in the first-annual juried exhibit of the Milton
Art Center in 2016.
The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours: Monday –
Thursday, 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. For more

Letter To The Editor
My name is DAVID PALFREY. I am a candidate for State
Representative for Merrimack County District 21 representing Epsom
and Pittsfield. I am a former State Representative having
represented Merrimack County District 2 for two terms from 2008
through 2012 serving on the house Commerce and Consumer Affairs
Committee.
In my second term I was elected chairman
of the Merrimack County House Delegation responsible for the
approval of the Merrimack County budget. I am a member of the
Merrimack County Republican Committee and The NH Republican State
Committee.
I believe that it is the obligation of a State Representative to,
first and foremost, represent the interests of the residents of the
communities from which elected. My agenda will be driven by
the needs of my district as determined by being available to listen
to all of the residents, their ideas, needs and concerns.
I strongly believe that it is important to
work with other legislators in making New Hampshire an even better
place to live, work, raise a family, operate a business, and retire.
Being a veteran of 4½ years in the U.S. Air Force, I am supportive
of our veterans. I am a member of two veteran organizations.
I ask my fellow Republican for your vote
in the primary election on September 13, 2016.
David Palfrey

Letter To The Editor
“Shame on you, New Hampshire”
We are writing this letter to bring to the
attention of the State of NH what seems to be the reason why the
State Parks aren’t mowed and taken care of on Rt. 4 in the town of
Epsom, also sides of the road are not mowed either, and also, the
road itself is not fixed. The other towns are mowed and taken care
of.
This State, two years ago, spent 1.2
million dollars for two welcome centers on Rt. 93, but cannot seem
to have any money for the above parks and road.
What seems to the reason for this not
being done, when it’s done elsewhere? Why isn’t this State taking
care of this? This has been going on the past four years, that we
know of.
Two very concerned, Town of Epsom Citizens
