No Fret
Cooking
Marilynn Carter will be at the Epsom
Public Library on October 5, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. to acquaint us with
her cookbook for healthy eating, “No Fret Cooking”. This book has
over 200 recipes for all eating styles - - recipes with whole wheat
and alternative flours, ancient and modern grains, gluten-free
recipes, vegetarian dishes, dairy-free recipes, medicinal support,
and simple and fancy dishes. She will make a power point
presentation with a simple demonstration. She will bring samples for
tasting!
The cookbook includes two CDs, “Music to
Cook By” and “Music to Dine By.” The music is composed and performed
by her husband, Steve Carter, a former Berklee College of Music
teacher. Music to Cook By is upbeat, making people smile and have
fun, and “Music to Dine By” is more mellow and is a hit at dinner
and cocktail parties.
Come and meet Marilynn and Steve Carter
and learn about traditional and alternative ingredients and use them
to make attractive, flavorful, and healthy eating.
Representative
Carol McGuire To Run For Speaker Of The House
Representative Carol McGuire, a four term
member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives from Epsom,
today declared her intention to run for Speaker of the House this
fall.
“During the past two years, Republicans in the House were
splintered, spending most of their time fighting amongst
themselves,” said McGuire. “My goal is to unify the party and
administer a smooth running House to accomplish our goals.
There were too many instances, from school choice to our response to
the opioid crisis, where Republicans fought among themselves over
details while losing sight of the bigger picture,” she added.
Representative William Ohm (R-Nashua), a supporter and co-chair of
the influential House Republican Alliance, said, “Carol has been
extremely effective in the House, whether it be while working as a
member of the majority or minority party. She works well with
people of all political persuasions and as Speaker of the House, I
expect her to engage with all representatives by using her wide
range of expertise and experience.”
Representative McGuire, a retired engineer, represents the towns of
Allenstown, Epsom and Pittsfield in Merrimack County District 29.
She currently serves as the chair of the Joint Legislative Committee
to Administrative Rules (JLCAR), and has served three terms on the
Executive Departments & Administration Committee, including one term
as the chair. She is also co-chair of the conservative House
Republican Alliance.
Letter To The
Editor
Friday, September 16, the manipulative
Donald Trump admitted President Obama was born in United States.
This, after six years of knowingly and willingly peddling the
“birther conspiracy,” in order to delegitimize our twice elected
President of the United States of America. .
Did anyone else feel the need to
regurgitate? Or was it just me?

“The Road Not Taken” At The Epsom Public Library
The Road Not Taken is an art exhibit inspired by the poetry of
Robert Frost and conceived by Derry artists Corinne Dodge, Judy
Krassowski and Ingeborg Seaboyer for the grand re-opening of the
Derry Public Library, Derry NH, in September 2011. After a few
months’ residence at the Derry site, the artists decided to look for
other New Hampshire venues for the exhibit - other “roads” for it to
travel. The art collection is currently touring public libraries,
community and university venues throughout southeastern New
Hampshire, and has received requests to bring the show to
Massachusetts and Vermont. For more information on the exhibit
and artists visit the newly launched website
www.poeticfrostart.com.
The artwork viewed in The Road Not Taken
includes both new works inspired by the words of Robert Frost and
some older pieces that provide vivid and connective imagery for his
anthology of poems. Planning for this exhibit afforded the three
artists the opportunity to revisit Frost’s work, reading and
rereading, to match just the right words to its appropriate visual.
Many of the poems resurfaced with the familiarity and comfort of old
friends; others, more unfamiliar or obscure, presented their own
intrigue and challenges. The artists chose one poem to be
interpreted with their individual styles as the lead works for the
exhibit. Each subsequent work is accompanied by a selected verse
with artist’s notes, explaining the process or personal perspective
that the artist applied to that particular piece.
The exhibit is scheduled for display during a one to two month
period at each venue, and can be seen at the Epsom Library in Epsom
NH from October 8 to November 19, 2016. Stop by and view the works
inspired by America’s most famous unofficial poet laureate, Robert
Frost. Enjoy the comfort of an old friend, or introduce yourself to
his view on neighbors, survival and nature. It’s worth checking out.
The exhibit may be viewed during regular library hours: Monday –
Thursday, 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday, 9 am to 1 pm. For more
information, call 603 736-9681, visit
www.epsomlibrary.com, or the
exhibit website listed above.
Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom,
and Pittsfield, This week, I worked recounting two primary races. As
expected, there was no change in results; as long as the voters can
fill in the circles, the machines do a great job of tallying the
votes. Changes are usually due to human error: crossing out a
mistaken vote, not filling in the circle, arithmetic mistakes, and
misplacing a stack of ballots. These races had no major errors, so
the results didn’t change.
The Legislative Youth Advisory Council is
being formed for the next session, and interested individuals can
contact me for more information. Members must be 15-22 years of age,
and serve for two years. This council advises the legislature on
issues of concern to youth, “such as education, employment,
strategies to increase youth participation in local and state
government, safe environments for youth, substance abuse, emotional
and physical health, foster care, poverty, homelessness, and youth
access to state and local services.” That’s a direct quote from the
authorizing law, and I’m impressed they can do all that in six
meetings a year.
Interested readers can email me for my
newsletter, with more details than fit here.

Rug Braiding Featured Artist At Deerfield
Fair
Rita Jane Davis will be the featured artist for her rug
braiding craft at the Deerfield Fair this coming weekend, Thursday
through Sunday. She will have a collection of her rugs on display
with examples of the styles, fashions, and designs of the past 40
years.
Rita has been teaching an showing her rugs
at the Deerfield Fair for more than 30 years, receiving many awards
for her masterful work.
Don’t miss this exhibit in the craft
building that all will enjoy, especially her Old Man of the Mountain
rug. She has learned that many New Hampshire men would help their
mothers and grandmothers make the rugs that she now mends and
replaces the characteristic black borders that are worn out.
